Purchasing a new home table

The basement game room is pretty large (about 900 sq ft) and it will be designed around the table. I measured for a 8' table and it fit fine. If I go with a 9' I'll have to turn it 90deg.

Hey Buddy.

You have plenty of room there in square feet, but an area is not very useful without dimensions. Your room could be 30' by 30', or at an extreme, it could be 900' by 1'.

The fact that you have said you need to turn the table 90 degrees (going form an 8 footer to a 9 footer) only adds confusion to what you have planned.

If we could some of the design drawings and dimensions it might be easier to help you out.

Certainly, if you can fit a 9 footer, I would recommend that. I would even go so far as to recommend it if it meant you had to shoot shots off the rail at 90 degrees to the table with a slightly shorter cue. After all, that will make you concentrate on you game more (to avoid such a shot) while still allowing you the luxury of playing on a 9 foot table.

Cheers - Dave

My opinion is that Diamond tables are the best made table in the world. You can get a tournament used pro-am (1 piece slate and built in ball return) delivered to your house and set up for around $4500. Can't beat that in my opinion. The only caveat is that your basement has to be walk out as they cannot move these up and down stairs. If you have stairs, you need the 3 piece slate pro version, which is what I have.

I think a new gold crown V is something like $10k. I don't think it's as good of a table either. Good luck with your search. I'm sure you'll have hours of enjoyment on whatever table you decide on.

Everyone seems to be partial to the pro am, which is indeed a fine table. But I've got the diamond pro with the three piece slate and it plays identical to the pro am if installed correctly. Plus, as mentioned, much easier to move (I've already done that once, I don't want any part of moving the pro am). About playability, just ask brandoncook26. He's played on mine as well as his pro am.

I completely agree. Get the Diamond Professional.

1. It plays exatly l ike the Pro-am.
2. In my opinion, it looks much better than a pro-am.
3. You will be able to move / install it in way more places down the road.

You might check with Diamond but I dont think they will move a Pro Am into a basement due to the fact that it is a 1 piece/cabinet table. I think they will only install them on a ground floor or a walk-out basement which has a ground level entry door.

I've been talking with a sales person and he's been really helpful. The Diamond ProAm now comes in a 3 piece slate so getting it down stairs will be a whole lot easier. The stairs are pretty wide open with cathedral ceilings so I think we'll be able to get it down there no problem if it's taken apart. The installers will handle the entire assembly.

The sales rep told me to send him some pictures and dimensions of my staircase.

The only thing I don't like about the ProAm in a 4 to 6 week lag time. I want to play now!

I'm gunna be like a kid waiting for the Ice cream truck when it gets delivered.

You can also get a diamond pro-am in a three piece slate. It would be new and cost a little more. BUT, it can go anywhere a 9ft can go. Expect to pay more for the install.

COOL! I bought one last year and do not regret the wait!

I just went thru this.

I started out loking for a 5 x 10 snooker table and only found an expensive antique or an over priced new Olhausen so I swithed gears and decided on 4 1/2 x 9. table.

My room is 17 x 23 so size was not a problem. There are lots of used tables out there and I limited my search to Brunswick, Olhausen and Gandy.

I searched Craig's List in my city, (Raleigh) and neighboring cities. prices from 500 to 3,500 and you would not believe the number of people who do not know their table size (is 8' regulation?) nor are aware of slate thickness or if the cabinet comes apart. One person said it was 9' but when I got there and measured it was 95" maybe it is new math!

I ended up with a 9' Brunswick 'Prestige' (poor quality picture attached) because I will get a snooker table some day and a Brunswick table should be easy to resell.

The economy is tough and a lot of people are dumping tables so do not be afraid of offering low $ to start with.

Go 9 ft!!!

Very true rediculous deals on craigslist on tables. Yuppies are going broke and selling the game rooms.
