Sneaky Pete's

If I were to start a collection of "sneaky petes" what would be some of the names I'd have to have on my list? I was thinking this would be a good way to collect different high end makers without going broke. If anyone else just colects sneakys I'd love to hear from you. I was thinking in no particular order: Murray Tucker, White, Mottey, Schick, Cantando, Scruggs Runde, ...suggestions please:)

Thanks
Andy

Abe Rich(The ultimate real Sneaky Pete),Dennis Searing,Ariel Carmeli(Vintage Valley),Keith Josey

Well i own myself;
Webb fullsplice rosewood sneaky ( Mike made the blank)
Scruggs purpleheart sneaky
Bluegrass bacote sneaky
J.White ebony butterfly sneaky
I think this is a good start to a sneaky collection......................:D

You held out on the Scruggs :D I've hit with the others and they be real nice.

I would add a Sugartree(Eric Crisp) to the list of great playing sneakies.

I here ya Mike. A Kercsh is way up on the list, I don't plan on spending that kinda cash. Bender, Bluegrass and maybe a Zeiler. Joseys are a little over done for my taste, at least the ones I've seen. Missed a purple heart Martinez awhile back would like to find that one again. I figure a K a year or so just depending. Obviously some or gonna cost more, I think the Schick I saw was 1500.

Andy

I HAVE A SCHICK I CAN SELL YOU FOR 800. 3/8 10 BRASS JOINT. IT'S A NICE OLD EXAMPLE OF HIS PLAIN WORK. I KNOW HE HASN'T MADE MANY SNEAKIES.

You have no impartiality do you??????????????

HE MAY BE SLIGHTLY IMPARTIAL, BUT HE'S ONLY SPEAKING THE TRUTH. KEITH DOES MAKE A VERY NICE SNEAKY, AND HE'LL MAKE THEM FROM PLAIN TO FANCY.

I'll second what KOOP says about the Sugartree Sneaky, I have one and it has a brilliant hit, best cue I have plyed with.

Eric builds awesome cues.

I have played with a couple and they do play nice but i mean not any better than my Webb or Bluegrass or you know what i mean..............:D

I WASN'T SAYING THAT THEY WERE BETTER THAN THE OTHER MAKERS, BUT KEITH DOES MAKE A VERY NICE SNEAKY.

Hey guys thanks for all the input, we've got quite a list going. I'm still putting cash together so I'm not really buying anything yet. Thankd for all the offers hang on to those bad boys for me.:)

Thanks

what i like about the way keith's cues play is that they have a great and consistent feel from tip to butt across the whole spectrum of shots. anything from center ball hit to wide english, follow and draw feel great through the stroke. allot of cues out there feel different through different kinds of shots and that bugs me. hit center on some and it hits like god. get down on the cue ball and the cue has a tick in it and use wide english and the shaft feels hollow. i that's unfortunately very common in allot of cues. this is what i mean in all my posts about the consistency of hit in his cues. keith's cues hit that way throughout the entire range of shots. another one of my favorites is searing and tascarella. they both make a great sneaky if you can get them to do it. ;) :)

skins, what you are saying about "consistency" of hit whether it's a center ball hit or wide english hit is impossible in my opinion.
The center of the tip will feel differently than the sides or top and bottom of the tip.
Others, pls enlighten me.

Did anyone mention Varney? He is on my list to get one of his eventually.

Also, I hit with a Joss sneaky by Dan Janes, that played great and is only semi-custom.

you will never get anything to be " mathematically " exact when changing the angle a cue tip hits a ball but you can very close. anyway that's not what i mean and am sorry if i've confused you. what i mean is there is a consistently "good" feel across all shot types. it may feel ever so slightly different but no enough for you to notice, make you stand up and go "man did i just crack my ferrule?" and not enough to take your mind off your game. this is very common in allot of cues and affects many good players. keiths cues are some of the best i've played with with this aspect. i am very sensitive to hit and have been asked by many cue makers to give opinions on their cues playability and there is a wide variety differences in the playability of all of them. some play great no matter what you shoot with them, except turkeys they don't do well with fowl.;) :D

all this talk about sneaky petes how about Pat Diveny, I know they're not all that sneaky but they hit great. IndyQ has a bunch of great looking examples of his work.

Somehow his cues seem to get overlooked although they shouldn't in my opinion. All I ever read is high praise for his work.

I think it's because his sp aren't very sneaky at all with all the little things he does they go from sp to simple works of art like the amboyna burl butterfly splice sp I got from indyQ, Roy hooked me up with a great price.
