Putting a Predator or OB-1 Shaft on custom?

too loud?i'll get the micarta and you start cutting some shafts.

what do you want to know the answer to?

Please explain, to us that don't make cues...

Why does the 314 vs the standard maple and the modified 314 vs the standard maple still have less deflection...

So many people claim that taking Predators ferrule system out will add back all of the deflection and I dissagree with this from my experience using Modified Predators... So does Dave...

Help please??????

This is where we need the common sense that he was talking about

Just loud enough to bother the neighbors.
Got plenty of shafts. Real nice ones. The sick brownish high ring counts kinds are on to second the last pass after this.
Got a ton of the Japanese market white shafts too. 4 more cuts though.

It doesn't unless that hole is there.
Believe it or not some cuemakers are holding back here.
Some have designed their shafts' taper and ferrule so they'd have less ( than normal ) cueball squirt.
Trade secrets.

i never said all.i said some or a little,i really can't remember which.i have played with Maple shafts that have deflection properties similar to Predator and i have played with modified Predators that had similar deflection of a factory shaft, and i have played with some modded Preds that were obvioulsy higher in deflection.i think part of the problem is thinking you can tell the difference of .10" in your mind on a 4' shot for example.if you and Dave thibk you can discern that minute diffference then that might be part of the problem.it just isn't possible.even if you or any human, there are way too many variables for it to be viable.i don't think it is all as cut and dry as you think.do you believe that there are custom shafts out there with similar deflection characteristics as a Pred?they do exist i have seen them.i think if you had some cuemakers that were trying to make very low deflection shafts make shafts and compare them to Preds you would be surprised at the results.

the machine is sweet, any wobble they may or may not currently will be gone tomorrow with one whack.

One might just be coming out next year and it might just shock a lot of people.
Wish it was mine but it's not.

So who are the ones making low deflection shafts then?

I have had sooooooo many custom cues and never had one that gave me the same advantages as i get from a Predator...

Now did I have some great playing cues? Of course I did. I loved many of them.

I just got the centers lined up.
Next finding X0 Y0 Z0 .

as long as the hit is nice i will bite.i know one guy that hollows out 4-5 inches deep and it really is low deflection, but i am not crazy about the hit.i like a short yellow micarta ferrule and a small tip on a specific shaft taper at around 12.5-12.6mm.Joey,you have the taper or something very similar to it.

Also, you are saying that Predators actual spliced shaft design has nothing to do with deflection... Or am I missunderstanding you?

are you asking me if radially laminated shafts have inherently less deflection?

just asking if Predators spliced design has anything to do with the lower deflection or if the ferrule system is the only true way to lower deflection?

THe splicing has nothing to do with cueball deflection.

See I have played with a Paul Mottey that had a 4 piece spliced shaft made by him... It was very different from any of the aftermarket spliced shafts.

i was going to say the same as Joey but i don't want to include Predator,b/c i am not there when they splice their shafts.laminated shafts are not necessarily low deflection shafts.

then why in the world do they do it?

Meucci and some others don't use that same ferrule system right?
More stable.

Pred's ferrules is just a thin walled light and soft ferrule.
Mocchi has light and thin too but has a large gap under the cap.
No bored hole down the shaft though.

one reason is that they can use incredibly cheap maple, basically scrap wood and make a $200 shaft out of it that is basically solid.i do buy into the fact that radially laminated shafts may give a more consistent, repetitive hit than a cheap low grade piece of Maple.there is Maple out there that is just as consistent as the laminated stuff though, imo.
