exactly what my pool playing buddy did. he wore glasses his entire life and now only needs reading glasses
Sorry to hear about your eyes but don’t be so down. I had the surgery last summer in both eyes after playing with contacts. My uncorrected vision was 20/400 like yours. I told the Dr. I played a lot of Pool and wanted to get sight as close to 20/20 or better if possible. He provided me with lens that adjust to provide excellent vision for both distance and reading. They cost more but are well worth it. I don’t wear glasses or contacts or reading glasses at all. My Pool game has improved because of my improved sight. I can now make long thin cut shots that before I was lucky to even come close to making. And the best news I can give you is that I didn’t miss any time playing Pool. Well maybe a couple of days. So get those cues back out and dust them off.

Opthalmologist visit today.
The good news is the cataracts haven't gotten worse, so no lens replacement is called for.

Hope you can get that retina stuff fixed up - wish you the very best. Saw mine last Friday.
Good news is he's going to do the surgery pretty quick, and he said he'll put a stint in to fix glaucoma while he's putting in the new lenses. Doing the left first.
Bad news is that my mom now has MD and bleeding in her other eye (Wet Mac). Going to see the specialist on 11th. He did a pretty good job the last time, but she started shots too late to really help much. Mostly she's been in good health for the past year (84), but I really hope we can save what's left of her vision.
Good luck with your surgery, and wishing your mom the best. Yes, krap happens...so we deal with and face it the best we can, eh?
Amen brother, and thank you. Least getting back to pool last summer may have pushed me into seeing an eye doc. Ya know - I'd complain about old age, but considering the alternative ......

I have tiny tiny cataracts. So this Crystalens for reading works good for far vision as well? How about the Pool Table?
based on that link you provided, I would be very encouraged.
"Rare cases" last over 12 mo and may require laser treatment sounds pretty good to me.
As does, "Most people will recover within 4-6 months without any need for treatment". :wink:
Take some comfort in that and stay in front of good doctors and you should be back to giving the world the 8 in no time at all. :smile:

Retina specialist visit Monday. It's called, AMD...age related macular degeneration. No real cure, but treatment is an injection of some sort of magical jungle juice into the eyeball. They numb the eye well, so it sounds much worse than it is. Scheduled for another in 5 weeks. So far, I think there is a slight improvement in the left eye.
Well, at 74, stuff happens...but my pool days could be over.
So, play an extra game for me, okay?

been getting the eye injections occasionally over the last 6-7 years. My first indication of a problem was while driving to SBE in Valley Forge and all of a sudden the guard rails on the roadside looked like they had waves on top of them. Strange.
The drug they use on me is called Lucentis and according to their imaging tests, it's been working well for me.
The thought of getting a needle in the eye was tough to imagine at first. I told them if this was a ride at Disney there would finally be a short line.
As you mentioned, it really wasn't so bad. I'd say neither better nor worse than a sharp stick in the eye - but rather, just exactly like one.
Hopefully, you'll get a good response to the treatment.

I was reading this thread. I have a very similar situation.
My eye had 'a stroke' about a year ago. It caused fluids to build up and caused dimness and distortion - if vision was even possible.
I have had 11 injections. Some work a bit - others don't. I don't ever expect to regain enough vision to function with my right eye to any decent degree.
My left eye is fine but the strain of doing all the work caused me to get glasses for part time use. Its all an interesting adventure....but I find I can play pool a bit. I didnt pick up a stick for 4-6 months, and have played just a little.
I find that the pockets are in the same place as they used to be. I don't really 'aim' - its more just by instinct. I have a real tough time on shots that are a ways away. but-what the hell, its still a game and just became a lot more challenging....

I have worn glasses most of my life, but since 1998 when I retired, my vision has improved. It has gone from 20/420 to 20/175.
The Vision Dr said I'm not going to be a candidate for Cataracts, I have the slow growing kind & I'm 75, already.
My problem today is that I had a Heart Attack on January 7, 2018. 95% blockage on the LAD & 100% blockage on Right Circumflex artery. Now I have to go thru Cardiac Rehab, before I can do anything.... If it ain't one thing, it's another.
