putting precious stones in a cue design

as some of you might have already read, im in the process of putting together information so i can have my 1st custom cue made. Of course I want a good firm hitting stick, built to my specs, and ive never been one who likes really intricate designs or anything excessively fancy, i find myself drawn to the older style cues, something along the lines of a titleist conversion but with a leather wrap perhaps, ivory joint, etc.
Ok heres something that I just thought of the other day. I have 10 diamonds (all the same size, about .25 to .30 of a carat) that were in the wedding bands of myself and my exwifes rings, and ive been racking my brain for years as to what to do with them. Originally i was going to have a horseshoe ring made out of them, figuring unlucky in love, lucky in life, what could bne luckier than the diamonds of a failed marriage lol (twisted i know). Well now that seems too gaudy to me, id probably never wear the ring, and i cant think of something else to make out of them and i dont want to sell them, and then it hit me......put them into my new cue!!?? But like i said, I dont want something thats going to be too gaudy.....im thinking maybe an ebony ring at the bottom or top of the wrap with the diamonds embedded in that....or maybe having my initials carved into the butt and the diamonds put into that? I have the gold bands too.....could i melt them and use them as well?
I guess what im asking is, has any of the cuemakers done work like this? How did it turn out? How hard is it to do somethig like this, so that it lasts forever.....and any other opinions would be appreciated.

Stones in cues

I have a DeRoo with 10 stones. I think they might be gemstones. Look just like diamonds. If you can use jemstones instead of diamonds and it looks the same, why use the diamonds. Them there diamonds didn't bring you a whole bunch of luck the first time around, did they. How the hell did ya get em back man? Did she throw em at ya or what?
Best of luck with your new cue.

Deroo always uses fake diamond(plastic crystal), with fake ivory(plastic, or mammoth), and a fake predator shaft(illegal patent violation), with an extension design he stole from someone else. O, and joints he bought from Falcon, with designs he stole from pechauer, and other cue makers.

What do you mean why use diamond? I will never give a fake diamond ring to the woman I love, or buy anything fake because fake is cheap, that is why. I guess if you deal with Deroo cues, you do not have the appreciation for something original and authetic obviously.

Dont go for the fake cheap stuff, leave that to some cheap cue makers like Deroo, and scam cue dealers like Donald duck.

You can put the diamond at the tip end of the points, that would look very nice, perhaps with an ivory border. Is the ring platinum/white gold? You can have the diamond inlays surrounded by the white gold/platinum rings, or with inlays made with that material.

Since they are pretty small in size, it would not look too loud. Besides, diamond is supposed to look elegant and classy (except fake plastic diamond used by Deroo).

Or may be you can make a bushka ring at the A joint with the diamond. That way, you do not have to worry about not having other ings on the cue to match with the diamond rings.

yep you hit it on the head tourquoise.......im not gonna use fake anything.....I want the real thing in it....plus it makes for a neat story too....and who knows, maybe all that luck with rub off on the cue. I actually thought about putting the diamonds in the points somehow, kind of how you see the inlay on some of the old balabushkas and szambottis, but i just dont know-sometimes i thought that looked cheap, ill have to do some mockups.

and to anwer how i got the diamonds in the first place.....lol......well we parted on agreeable enough terms and evidently she still fell for my smoothtalking lol (of course she kept the big diamond, so maybe she felt she had to throw me a bone, before you ask no i didnt ask for it back, that seemed petty).

What the hell do you know about cues dipshit? Stick to being Teacherman's nut sack holder, it fits you better.

1 More Thing Turquoise!

Don Purdy is far from being cheap. This man, who I never met before, raffled off a cue for over $500, sold 2 years worth of Billiards Digest, and collected all donations from other AZBer's to send a player to the U.S. Open last year, which I happened to be the lucky winner. Then, once I got there, he let me use his break cue and his beautiful leather case for the week until he could come back for the tournament. On top of all that, he and his wife took me to the Blues Festival at the beach for the day and took me to dinner. So, don't talk shit about people you don't know because what he said about that face to face thing, IT WILL HAPPEN! Purdy doesn't say it unless he means it. And neither do I!

at the risk of a personal attack from the "I'm rich, You're not" ,turquoisecrazy,,,I do have a question about putting synthetic stones in a pool cue,,is there something put underneath the stones to get them to shine/show up more,,,a cubic zirconia (or a diamond) just doesn't shine when it is set directly in wood, etc...

Jack, I will take some pictures in the morning and post. They are set in Snake wood. They show up pretty good. I don't care if he uses his ex wifes diamonds in his cue. Maybe they will bring him some more good luck!
Don P. ;)

the reason I asked about a backing for the stones, I have seen some come out of a cheaper cue and it looked like they were painted with aluminum/silver paint underneath,,,also, I have a bunch of cubic zirconias in different sizes and cuts (just figuring on designs that I plan to make someday),,,,,

That COG is a beaut, like the way they were used in the design with the twinkles inlaid around them.

The thing with diamonds that has me baffled is how to grind them or trim them (they very hard correct)? are they just inlaid deeper with the finish built up, and how would that effect they way they shine?

Purdy you seem like a good guy to me. Greg

I know just a little about cutting the facets on stones,,,took a course in college,,,the shape/facets are done with a faceting machine, diamond cutters, and coolant,,,very precise and tedious work,,,I've been trying to find out what happened to the jewelry making equipment that was in the lab at college,,,hasn't been taught in years,,,really enjoyed the class,,,,

would be easier to make the hole in the wood (your stick) fit your stones,,,??

and less expensive,,!!

I put 5 sapphires in this cue, each inlaid into mammoth ivory. The tricky part is getting the pocket to match the stone so that it sits at the proper height, and sits perfectly perpendicular to the centerline of the cue. All 5 stones that I had for the cue pictured were slightly different sizes, so I had to design a separate pocket for each one.
