QATAR WORLD CUP 10 BALL, OCT. 28 to NOV. 2, 2025

I tried to check Bonus/Banares puzzle myself, and from what I found they are two different players. Meaning we are supposed to have Jerico Bonus playing here in Qatar?

seems i edited my post responding to this, but you're right. crazy they have two top players named "jerico b...s".

The video production is mostly OK, but the director needs to time his camera changes better. On the break shots, the camera switches from foot rail to overhead when the cue ball is half way to the one ball. This makes it very hard to track specific balls. There are a few other camera choices that are badly timed. I think you need a director who watches pool.
I believe the director knows pool, but as you said the camera switches are not done properly sometimes. It might be a difficult task to get it right all the time.

They should not switch cameras when balls are rolling except if it's from a close-up to full table. Close up should only be use if there is a possible foul or to show grip and stance or something like that.

Niels reminds me of Justin Rose putting himself in the mix repeatedly late in his career. Hopefully he can pull one out.

@sjm Stu, in this post where you list majors and such, Qatar World Cup 10-ball did not make your first 11. @jbart65 at least mentions it as a second tier, out of his top 6.
Now, that according to Mike Page, Qatari event provides a very strong field - how would you rate it?
It is a relatively new event, but definitely a premier event. They are building a nice tradition there. It is one of the newer majors in our sport and destined to remain one. In truth, just a few years ago, the World 10ball was probably the only 10ball major, but the Qatar 10ball (current) and the Las Vegas Open (February) are now premier events on the world calendar and must be reckoned majors. Add this to the advent of two new majors in 9ball this year (Florida Open and Philippines Open) and you have to be encouraged by how many good events are now found on pool's calendar.

I'm very pleased that this event has gained so much momentum. I felt that when the Word 9ball was in Qatar, it was a big disappointment, but it looks like Qatar has found its way and is producing a nice event.

JBart has it right. It's not in the top tier of the majors but is an elite event.

Moritz Neuhausen is currently the best pool player from Germany.

I fancy him to win this tournament.
With his win at the Peri, silver at the Hanoi Open, and another medal coming at Qatar, Moritz must be reckoned the hottest player in the world right now. His chances are very good tomorrow. Wishing him well.

Germany's tradition of producing champions is really something special. Ortmann, Souquet, Hohmann and Filler are all World 9ball Champions and, just for good measure, each has won at least one straight pool major.

Moritz might be the next one to walk in their giant footsteps. If those at Matchroom can ever stop talking about Manas, they may come to realize that they've got a very special player in their midst named Neuhausen.

Wow, what a discovery.

EDITED:
Perhaps @mikepage should try to investigate it further, whether he is Bonus or Bañares like you say. Taking care about proper entries of results to FargoRate.
There are 3 events where Superman and Clark Kent are in the same room at the same time.

2022 Sharks Invitational
2019 Manny Pacquia Cup
2015 World 10-Ball

If you scroll down here, you see one JB finishes 65 and the other 33.

Yannick Pongers won the 19-and-under WPA World 9ball Championship in 2023. It is often a sign of good things to come.

Among those who are prominent in today's pro game that won the 19-and-under WPA World 9ball Championship are FSR, Ko Pin Yi, Ko Ping Chung, Aloysius Yapp, Fedor Gorst, Jonas Souto, Szymon Kural, and Moritz Neuhausen.

Let's see if the youthful Yannick can walk in their big footsteps. Wishing him the best.
Well, Yannick Pongers was not quite up to it, but in Neuhausen and Kural, two WPA 19-and-under World Champions have reached the Qatar semifinals. In fact, Neuhausen beat Kural in the final of the 2021 event. Kural bounced back and won the 2022 event.

How cool would it be if these two were to meet in the final tomorrow with $100,000 up for grabs? Will youth be served on Sunday? We shall see!

QFs:

neuhausen v alawadhi
magpantay v feijen
bañares v kural
oi v bongers

Both Filipinos are qualifiers. It is already a bonus for Bonus to get to QF. If Jonas wins, it may be first win of big event by a qualifier in long time.
I like Oi to win cos he is long due a big win. Am sure he does not want to retire being known as pool's comedian. Moritz also due a big win cos of his brilliant performance this year though he did win Peri Open (which had much stronger field than Hanoi Open and bigger prize than Philippines Open.
What is ROS?
Better known as Ronnie O, Rocket or simply Ronnie
Feijen was on his recovery but someone turned off the ligths in front of him when he was playing the 8 ball... WTF...
I am rooting for Oi from now on!
