I was recently told that the IPT has been contacting the rooms holding qualifiers in an attempt to counter my "Let's educate the room owners and players" thread. Basically telling them that there's a rumor about some bad press going around about them and to please ignore it, blah, blah, blah... something to that effect.

Phone calls are one thing, the written word with web addresses to access the full stories is another thing altogether. You guys can call the room owners all you want and try to counter our attempts at educating them on your LIES, but I'm not giving up.

I'll be printing stuff up today to send out to them. ;)

I don't like to see anyone lose $2000, but it might just come back to bite KT in court. It would prove he commited fraud collecting money for Qualifiers to nowhere. Johnnyt

cons at KTs level are too far in to not get caught.

anything they do just wont help, they should just pay in full.

There are lots of types of jails considering the charmer KT is those guys might recognize him from tv. I could imagine the surprises theyd like to show a tv personality.

I have no dog in this fight and want to see the players come out as well as they can. I have to be honest, the IPT has at this time only officially postponed the tournaments and you may be just giving them ammunition for the future. In other words, a concerted effort to take down the IPT plays in their favor. You are just allowing them to say, "We tried but there was too much working against us to continue". They are relived of some of the responsibility for the failure.

I would not be surprised if what you are doing is exactly what they would want you to do. This is a game and I am sure they know how to play it pretty well. They will pull stuff to manipulate people to do what would work in their favor. Don't be surprised in the end for you to receive a letter from a lawyer wanting to bring damages against you and others who in their words, "Slandered and defamed them" contributing to their ultimate demise. You are an amateur, leave the work to the people who know what they are doing.

Heres the facts as they are at this point.
They have run tournaments.
They did pay a lot of prize money.
The tournaments have aired on TV.
They have attempted to launch a line of IPT products.
They are running qualifier tournaments.
No checks have bounced as far as we know.
Their only short coming is they have run short of money and are trying to get their act together. This is what actually exists and can be shown. On the surface they don't look so bad and they have a lot going for them to show they did everything in good faith. The lies will be explained away with little problem.
Your efforts will be made to look malicious and rightfully so.
Don't play into their hands.

More than that, they could point at all this as an effort to undermine their business - and use that as a basis for a lawsuit themselves. There are plenty of companies who have sued (to varying levels of success) based on people, both on and off the net, attempting to disrupt their business.

All I'm saying is, be careful.

I wouldn't be trying to tell these rooms not to hold qualifiers. I would simply be educating them with news stories about the IPT. It's up to the room owners if they want to hold these or not.... I would simply be providing them with the recent billiard news.

Not much different than having a newspaper delivered to ones front door.

Timberly,
Can you provide an example of what you're sending to the pool room owners, so that others could possibly utilize it too and send it to IPT pool room owners that they are in contact with? Thanks.

I think as long as Timberly is providing accurate information, there could not be any legal risk to her.

I haven't had a lot of time to put too much thought into it yet but I was thinking about the interview with KT and the story that's currently on the AZB home page. Just print them off and provide them with the web addresses for them to look it up themselves.

Don't play into their hands.

Of course, you've conveniently omitted some other pertinent facts
 :
Scheduled tournaments have been cancelled (postponed).
Prize fund payouts have not been paid yet.
They are running qualifier tournaments and collecting $2000/player with no assurance that the winners will ever get to play in a future tournament.
The IPT has made many false and misleading statements to the players regarding their prize money and the future of the IPT.

I would call it cancelled. There is no new dates. I might believe it if they had a deposit on the first place their going to play.Johnnyt

IMO If you stick to the facts (e.g. IPT emails, other articles etc) you're on safe ground. Most amazing thing is just goes to show they're intent on cashing in on qualifiers - still hoping to fund these payouts it seems!

Personally I think any player that pays 2k this weekend is a prize doughnut!

I did mention they didn't pay. Canceling a tournament or postponing a tournament can be made to appear as an attempt to get their act together and all in good faith. Except for the late payment and that is still not a non payment, noone has been issued any bad checks or one written on a closed account, they, the IPT, don't look so bad on the surface and could easily be presented as such.

The $2000, qualifier fee that we see as a rip off can be called cash flow needed to keep the show going. You don't know at this point for sure there will be no tournaments. What we know or perceive as lies will be explained away. I am trying to see this objectively without emotion. To an outsider they don't look as bad as they do to us.

The deal is, this will probably never end up in court, at best maybe some kind of arbitration and these are the facts they will be dealing with. KT may end up looking like the victim.

I think the most relevant information is that an IPT tournament in which many participants also paid $2000 qualifying fees has defaulted on the prize money payout and is offering winners a 1/3 settlement over three months. 60 plus days since the end of the tournament, and no payment to date.

All tournaments have been either cancelled or postponed. There currently are no tournaments scheduled.

After knowing this, if any player still wants to pay $2000 to play in these qualifiers, or room owner wants to invest their time and money into this, then it's entirely up to them. Caveat emptor.

JMHO But you were so much more competent in your previous position as Prophet of Doom.

Everyone keeps speculating on how the events have not been cancelled, but just postponed. Lets be honest here.....IF these events were rescheduled, how much trust would you have in the IPT from here on out if you were a player? I mean, ofcourse the players dont trust KT and Deno, but could they feel any better about the tour if Ho had it? There is absolutely no doubt that KT was in this for KT from the git-go, he wasnt in it for the best interest of the players. Look at the tournies and smaller tours that have succeeded over the years, the U.S. Open, the Viking Tour, SE Open 9 ball tour and there are alot more up North. These have been around so long for a reason. The trust and credibility of the promoters have never been in question. I think focusing on the ones that have succeeded and trying to continue to help them grow is the way to go. JMO.

If KT should ever need to find a replacement for Deno, I think you could fit Deno's shoes perfectly! ;)

God, don't say that. I am just making the point you have to think like they think, you don't want any surprises. This is the way they will present themselves with people who are ten times more creative then I am at putting a positive spin on something. I don't want the players to be thinking it has to go their way, it doesn't.

Settling, I would hope for better the 33%, may be the best thing to do. I would not want to take a chance in a court. KT past acts have nothing to do with this case, on the surface it looks like nothing more then a business gone bad and one persons lies and exaggerations can be another persons optimistic vision.

I think in the end all of this may be meaningless, unless they are complete idiots, they have the company set up to protect themselves. I would imagine, there is nothing really value wise to go after, I am surprised an attorney would even take the case. Please don't compare me to Deno, I have known him for many years and never liked him.
