Just taking a first prediction at quarter finalists
and with my lack of knowledge about Taiwanese players:

I will say:

Valentine
Feijen
Morris
Pagulayan
Archer
Hohmann
Manalo
Deuel

I am starting with those, of course I will adjust after we get to 32 .... lol

This field is so balanced in talent that this rates as a near impossible assignnment. I predict noone (that selelcts before a single knockout match is played) in this thread will get five right, and some will get zero.

Time to chance really embarrassing myself (hope I get at least one right). My final eight are as follows:

Chao
Feijen
Yang
Orcullo
Archer
Kawabata
Valle
Immonen

I struggled with some of your picks too, I had Valle originally and Orcullo too,
but switched probably because of my lack of knowledge about Asian players.

I think Morris will bear down, and show some of that talent he has. And I think Deuel will beat Mika. Plus, I guess I am rooting for Valentine because
of my Scottish ancestry, but he is playing well.

Po-cheng KUO
Hui-kai HSIA
Ching-shun YANG
Alex PAGULAYAN
Johnny ARCHER
Thorsten HOHMANN
Marlon MANALO
Cory DEUEL

Alex Lely is an absolute mystery to me. He has never really looked like one of pool's most elite when he has competed here in the US. To my knowledge, he's never been a member of Europe's Mosconi Cup team. Nonetheless, his absolutely brilliant play in this year's European championships has me wondering whether he has brought his game to a completely new and higher level. I've met him a few times, even practiced with him once, and he's a super nice guy and a fine player. In short, I'd like to see your prediction about Alex Lely come true. It would be a great story.

With the draws in screen 1 on my left, here goes my choices :)

Nice choices, but impossible.

Basavich and Deuel are on the same group of 8.

Owen, Hohmann and Jones on another group of 8.

Archer and Strickland on the same group of 8 too.

That leaves you with Morris not grouped with any you named.

That shows how much I understand the groupings, etc. and why I read all of the posts here to stay informed! GO - ALL OF USA! And Thanks!

Well I am cheating due to knowing some results now. Keep in mind Archer would have been in there for sure in my choices before finding out Chamat beat him. After the opening results and scores I pick...

Chao (drilled his first opponent, I think he is awake now)

Luat (I dont know why but I got a feeling about this guy, I said after his loss to Yang in the groups to not undersestimate him even still and now he is dominating guys)

Yang (Umm, just cuz)

Alex (nobody quite bears down like him I find, he grinds out matches really well)

Wu (Chamat beating Archer is a shock, I dont know if Martel can take Chamat so Chamat is a good bet here but I dont like Chamat against Wu due to the break before the quarters)

Hohmann (While not the guy I would like to see make it to the quarters in his section I cannot deny he is the favorite.)

Manalo (He is on a roll and his style is so solid)

Deuel (It seems he is focused on pool atm with a sound thrashing of Lai. He is usually pretty disinterested in pool but I think he is interested in being the World Champ and that is a bad thing for anyone facing him because he is talented beyond belief, has a serious amount of confidence and does not react negatively to pressure or choke, he gets even stronger)

I believe 7 out of 8 have advanced. I know Archer was a loser for sure, which I never would have thought. And I'm not sure about KUO and YANG, but I think they advanced. Any one 8 for 8 after one round?

I'm also cheating because alot of the L64 results are in.

Chao
Hsia
Yang
Pagulayan
Chamat
Hohmann
Manalo
Immonen

I'm also a little biased because of my bets with SJ.
