question about a JEt lathe ..

This depends if you have any ideas on making other stuff as well, or just cues?
I'm pretty sure that a Jet lathe would be good enough for pool cue making,
just get a long enough bed and hopefully a spindle boar with enough opening
for you're needs. I do speak about a metal lathe now.

If you speak about a wood lathe, well, then you are up to more modifications
than you might prefer, but it's for sure doable.

But if you are only making cues and nothing else, I'm sure many here will recommend
some of the dedicated cue machines.

I did go for a large metal lathe due to the fact that I would like to make other
things as well, not just cues. If you have a look at the "Show you're shop"
thread you would see several Jet lathes placed in some of the shop pictures :)

Anyway, there has been many discussions about lathes up here so try a search as well.

I suggest getting Chris' book. It has many of the answers you're looking for. It gives opinions on metal lathes, woods, and a ton of other stuff. cuesmith.com

Best advice you'll ever get.;)

Metal lathes are not toys.
I suggest going to a community college and take machining for one semester.
