Question about Bocote

Opnions from both the experienced cuemakers and regular joe like me :)

If you are to put a wrap on it, what colour do you guys think looks best on Bocote? For both darker and lighter types of Bocote. Black looks good for a light shade since it brings out the Black specks nicely. What about the darker shade? Would you use brown irish linen?

i would turn theforearm and sleeve down to 625 then slide cocobolo over it.lol. i just dont like the looks of it.but i have made several for customers
because they like it. i would use brown with white specks for the darker.
which ever u choose i would try to avoid a wrap that draws the purple tint that can come out of the bocote.

lol I guess not a lot of people really like the way it looks..haha acquired taste?

can you give an example of which color would draw out that purple tint?

I, myself like bocota and use it somewhat often. It hit's very good and even bland pieces have pretty good figure although the colors aren't that great. I like white with double brown speck myself.

i didnt used to be a big fan but after playing with it ive changed my mind. the last bacote cue i did had whte with black spec linen and looked really nice.
 
I prefer black wraps on Bocote. I also think the wider grain pieces of Bocote are very nice looking.
 
I agree........black leather is the best arrangement for this wood.
Also think there are very few other woods that compliment this wood.
Something black, brown, yellow or maple. I've seen it together with PH, PI, Paduak just to mention a few and just wanna puke!

All of this is, of course, is just the opinion of one person.

Btw, it's padauk, not paduak.
It's an ugly match but they sure ping together nicely. Put a black wrap over the padauk.

Whatever........it's that orangey, red wood that bleeds like a SOB when sealing and finishing and has the dust that gets into every crack and crevice on your body when working with it.....:eek:

Yes it does play/ping nice and makes decent underwraps when cored with PH........:wink:

I think padauk & bocote make a fine pair...one of my favorites.:smile:
