Question about CTE terminology.

So I've studied from DVD 2. I'm going through Stan's truth series atm and there's some terms I'm guessing at. I'm assuming I'll find it if I keep sifting.

Alignment line (AL) : Originally the Edge to A, B, C line?

Sight Line (SL): was the Center to Edge line but again, has been updated to reflect the new 15 and 45 (and arguably the 60)?

Paralllax: When you lock in your visuals and maintain the perception of the two lines.

I know that this can be answered on Stan's Facebook page but I don't want to clutter his page with questions that can be answered when I have his book in hand.

I guess you haven't heard: we don't do CTE substance here - only empty praise of CTE (and groveling to the moderator).

Is adhering to the moderator’s rules considered “groveling” to you.
No, but quoting him and calling him “Mr. Howerton” every other post is - especially right after getting a stern warning from him for being the most disruptive poster here. You know who I'm talking about - we all do.

The "not needed" but spoken of 60 degree perception was something I never got the opportunity to discuss during the my attempt at understanding the Truth Series videos on YT. I hope you have greater success than I did getting answers.

Parallax refers to the simple visual stepping of the cue ball. When you look at the shot and tilt your head sideways you will see a new center cueball. That is your NISL.
You should join up to the CTE Aiming Forum on facebook...it's free. Stan and certified instructors and users from all over the world converse there and use various visual aids and videos to ensure you get the message down pat.
You'll have to be checked out to ensure you're not one of these eccentric kooks looking for trouble, but that won't take long. (I can vouch for you..)
Lots of good visible instructions on there and the site is ruled with an iron fist. Anybody who wants to argue, preach about "how they see it" or engage in what some of the troublemakers in here lie about and refer to as "civil discussion" will be bounced.
Check it out. Remember, it costs nothing and if you think it's not worth a flip or is stupid or worthless...you can always just forget about it. Trust me, if you're unhappy and leave, you won't be missed. It's on you, my man

Good wishes to you.

Wow, with an invitation like that how can he refuse? You left out the proctology exam.

Makes you wonder why such a great system needs an iron fist in the mix...

To the OP: mohrt has a good thread called "A CTE shot for you to try" or something like that on AZ. He goes through the steps in detail and might clear up some things for you. I understood the stepping to be simply looking at the edge of the cue ball and reimagining the new center cb. I was not aware there was an actual head tilt required.

My book has arrived in the mail! Got enough bubble wrap to last me through the next 2 covid waves. Appreciate it.

I've been watching you guys go back and forth for years! Days of zero response to a super simple question is depressingly hilarious.

I exclusively use enjoy and appreciate CTE and have been studying/trying to decrypt it for years. I sincerely appreciate Stan's hard work for trying to convey something that is so difficult to explain and is still evolving.

That being said, you guys are never going to see eye to eye. One side is talking about aiming and the other is preeeetty much a cult (and that's okay).

The magic of a spherical to spherical CB to OB relationship on a 2 by 1 surface feels like It shouldn't exist, and is a small window to the inner workings of the universe.

It amazes and inspires me and that's why I love and work on it. But I'm also smart enough to acknowledge how completely i-n-s-a-n-e that sounds!

TO REITERATE, one side is simply talking about hitting a ball at a ball at a pocket. The other is on a spiritual journey to try and sneak an angle-faced peek at the face of God.

CTE is magic and you have the right to not believe in magic.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

(Please don't be offended, I've been holding my tongue for like a decade now)

This is probably the best advice for anyone interested in learning Stan Shuffett's version of CTE.

You can get those questions answered by the author of the DVD in the facebook group as you already know.

I don't think that the Sight Line was ever the CTE line. That's not how it is defined in the book.

Stan would prefer that we not copy content from the book here so I won't do that. Someone else who has the book and no inclination to follow Stan's wishes on that might provide the verbatim definitions for you.

I honestly recommend that you develop relationships in private with the main instructors on that page and you can be confident that they will answer your questions thoroughly.

A cult. Hardly. I don't know why practicality is not the number one criteria? If the so-called "other side" were talking about aiming then they would be talking about HOW TO TEST any aiming system because that's all that people really need to know. Every shotmaking test that I have seen so far has CTE and objective aiming users in the top quarter of high scores.

All of the CTE users here whom you identify offensively as cult figures are simply players who have found that the proof is on the table. It is really that simple. They found a method that is pretty amazing and that they enjoy. I take great offense at being called a cult member. In fact I think it is the most offensive thing that can be said about a user of Hal Houle's methods because it is the very reason that we are still doing this two decades later.

Every single person that I have worked with personally on CTE has come away amazed at the accuracy. Many of these are people who don't know Stan and don't participate on AZB or any other forum that I know of. The system can be and is taught without any participation from, knowledge of and certainly not cultish devotion to Stan Shuffett. Stan is just deep in the weeds on this one subject and is passionate about it, has been beaten up and verbally bullied like Hal before him, and is currently intensely protective of the printed contents of his book. So for me, I respect his wishes on the subject and send people to the facebook group for technical answers or ask them to get with me in person where I will help them as I can and refer them to someone else when I can't.

And I am with you, some of what has been said by Stan about CTE sounds wacky. I don't bother with those comments and focus on the practical usage and defend the practical usage. Can Stan's book benefit from better editing? ABSOLUTELY. Have any of the critics put in the amount of time Stan has on this? Nope and I do thank you for recognizing that. Because of Stan's efforts CTE will reach more people and in that more ways to teach it in a simpler fashion will be developed. That's just the progression of most human endeavors, the more people doing it the better it gets.

If you told me that I am devoted to accurate and objective aiming at this point I would absolutely agree with you. I like your peek at the universe comment, that was funny. I will end with the quote from Arthur C. Clark, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".

They have video recorders with eye tracker software built into a pair of glasses. It lets you see what a person is seeing from the perspective of their eyes (unlike a go pro helmet) And a white dot highlights where their eyes are focusing.

I'm assuming there's factors like lens distortion, personal vision centers and peripheral vision that would limit it.

I don't think it would change anyone's minds, but I personally think it would be really beneficial to see things from that perspective.

At a glance, the tech still seems sort of basic primitive. Maybe some day.

Hey Dan.
Video 21 in the truth series is KEY.
There is no head tilt. while in the standing position if shooting an OB to the left simply turn your nose to the left (your right eye becomes dominant). if shooting an OB to the right simply turn your nose to the right ( your left eye becomes dominant). This is all done while in the standing position. This method changes your visual perception of exactly where the OB needs to be struck.
I now use this method. What happens for me is that the contact point on the OB POP's out.
Keep in mind that there are two different stances that you may notice. On some shots when you begin to get down on the shot you will notice that you are leading your bridge arm with you left shoulder. On other shots you will notice that you are simply just bending over into the shot.
If you mess around with all of this for awhile you'll see what I'm writing is true.

John

It is just for gathering data. There are a few companies in pool using eye tracking based on external video recording and software.
