I heard that Efren was going into the hospital for some kind of surgery and would be missing DCC. Can anyone confirm?

Anyone know what the surgery is for, and how serious it is? I don't believe that was mentioned in the last thread.

I heard a rumor that there is some point system tournament he is part of... something where if you get 4 points you win 100k. Something about he has 3 points and one of the tournaments would have interfered with his trip to the derby.
Just a rumor or is there any truth to it? I believe his situation with his back being the reason, until any other reason is confirmed.
I'm not one to throw out rumors, but I'd rather put this one to rest if it has no basis for fact.

Well, if this tournament conflict is the case, I think we would here about it if he was or is competing somewhere else significant enough to earn him points towards a $100K prize.
Until then, I am going with the report of back surgery. IIRC, it was Jay Helfert who posted it. He usually has his ear to the ground.
