Question About Pool on TV

Oh, of course that information is valuable. What I'm saying is ( in conjunction with Jay's suggestion) have good commentators to explain things and there is no need to cramp the view of the screen with a diagram of a circle showing a red spot on the lower left side. :) Just tell them.

I think the main point in this is that expending energy, thought and resources to things like this cue cam, misses the mark completely. I believe the entire game format they are broadcasting is wrong for the masses. Showing picture in picture inserts of english is like not seeing the forest for the trees relative to sparking interest for newcomers.

Oh, I completely agree with the other post and your last post in this thread.

The pool community needs to welcome, with open arms, as many new people to our community as possible. An entertaining billiards show on ESPN is one way to do it.

Jay,
During the last two WPC finals (Alcano vs. Souquet, and Peach vs. Gomez) you could walk down the street in Bangkok, look in the windows of the bars, and see the matches on every T.V. inside.

And the patrons were watching it and cheering like it was the Super Bowl.
 
The more information the better, the cue view is great.

Commentary should be as if most people have never seen the game before, yes it bugs seasoned players but the goal is to get the masses involved, if we keep gearing the set up and commentary towards people who already know the game then it will not grow, we need to captivate newbies.

The ratings for the last two WPC were huge, literally tens of millions of viewers every day, all across Asia and Europe. And what a shame, the United States is one of the few countries that does not carry the broadcast. Makes me sick to think about it.

All these great matches NEVER aired over here. Only a few highlights of important matches were ever seen, and then only weeks and months later. Shades of ESPN coverage. :confused:

Those matches would have been on at odd times here if run live. I'm sure they would have had better ratings than whatever reruns or infomercials ESPN runs in the wee hours.
