Question about Private Rooms to players or Poolhall-owners?

According to alot of players, i own Hollands Number One Poolhall the place is called House of Billiards Weert
I have troughout the year big tournaments like:

Dutch Championships - EPBF Eurotour - Open Weert 9-ball - Qualificationtournament for the World Championships 8-ball and 9-ball etc. etc.

In the Netherlands not many Poolrooms have VIP-rooms or Private rooms.
In my club i have on another level a nice room to make a VIP-room.
I could put about 4 tables in this room.

I read an article in BD October 2002 that a new poolroom in Chelsea New York called "The Q-lounge" has such a VIP-room.
And also other Poolrooms have them.

My question is: are these rooms frequently rented, or do they stay empty most of the time, because of the higher prices?
The Q-lounge rented there VIP-room for $100,- an hour, is this including the drinks?

Because it is a big investment, i would like to know if i make a good decision to make an VIP-room or what do you guy's think?

Like to have some info....

Thanks

In many rooms, the VIP area is used for gambling purposes. Since gambling on pool is illegal most places in the states, it provides a little separation for the players engaged in illegal activities.

I suspect New York City prices are more expensive than elsewhere. Many of us here in the states consider NYC a foreign country anyway (sorry, SJM).

Though I am not any help on the business aspect of a VIP-room (your opinion as a room owner is probably the best), I will DEFINITELY check out your room the next time I am in the area (are you anywhere near Amsterdam??).

I played in Germany quite a bit. 3-4 hours for 4 of us playing would run about 50-70 euro depending on how much we drank. If we had a more private room and drinks were included I could easily see 150 euro.

I'm not sure how the Dutch economy is compared to Germany though. When I "dream" of opening a room I always thought I would have 1-2 private rooms with only one table surrounded by sweaters box's and a private waitress.

I don't think this helped at all, but good luck with your decision.

I am located about two hours drive from Amsterdam, in the south of Holland.
Near Eindhoven.
Let me know when you are coming, i have a big Tournament "The 6th Open Weert 9-ball Championships" from Januari 27 till Januari 30 2005.
Oliver Ortmann won the 5th edition!

That is what i want to know, if you pay $100,- do you get free drinks, personal waitress, etc.

I've only played in such a room once, and the drinks were free, and there was a waitress who only served the 2 tables in the room along with any spectators in the room. Table time if I recall correctly was $50 and hour, but this was 15-20 years ago. Good luck.

In the proper area with the proper clients something like that would go off without a hitch. It is business that would run a room like that, people doing corperate functions and taking people out for some pool. You could rent that area out much like a convention center rents their rooms, with options for catering from the kitchen, free drinks, and almost anything else the people would wish to pay for. It is a offshoot of golf as a business practice. Pool in a quiet private area can work just as well, and for the larger parties of 20 people a room with up to 4 tables that can be opened up into one large section for the large parties, or shrunk into 4 seperate rooms or 2 rooms with 2 tables in each, or 3 and 1, there are ways to get rooms such that they can be changed easily like that.

It is a great idea IF you are in a area that would support it, alot of high end business area type of place, such as New York will offer.

Willie, next time check out HOB Weert, it's a nice pool room with lots of 9' tables (~20 tables if I remember right).

Maurice, I sent you PM. Don't know if you have company clients but they bring in a lot of dough at our club here in Helsinki.

Private room

I have found in my 30+ years of pool that the better players seem to want to play where "EVERYONE" can watch them perform (whether they are gambling or not)!!!
The locations that have private rooms seem to do well with groups/party trade (birthdays, bachelors, company get togethers) ...where they can have their personal group play among themselves...these groups will generally pay more for the priviledge.

Here in LA`s Hollywood Billiards u have VIP room and they charge 60$ hour. Some times these rooms come handy.Cheers
