question about schon cues

i tried this in the main forum but i haven't got any relplies, so i figure i'll ask here since there's probably a few schon afficionados here. i was just wondering when exactly schon started putting the two dots on top of the 'o' on the schon stamp on the buttcap. have they always done this or did they not do it on the earlier cues? thanks, Brett.
 
I think that has to do something with german language.it means something in german but i dont remember what.

This is the cue maker statment on their website and i qoute
"Schon Custom Cues came into existence in 1981 and we have been at our Burnham St. location since 1986. We have a miniscule output , sometimes going 2 weeks without actually finishing any cues. I frequently hear the all knowing term “production cue” applied to our cues with an implied sneer. The fact is that we are one of the oldest custom cuemakers in the world with a total staff today of 5 people. I personally design, finish and test every cue myself. Everyone here is a full time craftsman, not telemarketers or corporate hypsters. The only thing we do is make cues...Evan Clarke 1-11-05"

If I recall correctly from my german language class in college, the 2 dots is called 'umlaut'. When you see that symbol in word, the pronounciation changes.

Correct, sir.

I spent 3 years in Germany...and it took about a year before I realized that the "o" is pronounced differently with the umlaut.

It's closer to a "u" sound....but not an exact "u."

Far too complicated for me to explain. Where are the Germans at??!!?? :)
 
I remember an old thread debating the proper pronunciation of "Schon". It was several pages and almost comical in the different variations.

Would appreciate an expert giving us the straight poop on how to pronounce Schon and Pechauer. A reasonably knowlegeable pool buddy swore to me you prenounce it Pee-shower........:confused: Anyone?

Hmmm as far as the two dots and how long they have been there ask Hersheyhillbilly ... He knows alot about Schons ... I had a R-11 (Very early 80's Schon made by Runde ) I had it about 20 years and I want to say that they were on it ...

I love Schon I have two of them now ... A SP1401 and a 1131 ltd... I have heard Schon said alot of ways ... I know the two dots change the way Schon is said ... But I have never heard the correct way to say it and if I have I did not know that was it ... And I doubt I will hear the correct way here on a message board...lol...

The correct pronunciation of Sch?n

There was a discussion about it in another forum but I thought I would share what I know...

So... if you write it Schon (without the ?) then it should be pronounced shone and it actually means already

If you write it Sch?n (as it should be) then it should be pronounced shune and now it means beautiful...

Well that's our German lesson of the day... have a good weekend

I guess this web site does not support umlaut so just imagine where you see "?" an "o" with two dots above it....

Well, I have talked to Jerry many times in the past - been at least 8 years - and he always told me it was PEACH-HOUR - like a peach an hour. But what do I know.:D

Names

Micheal is right, the proper pronunciation of Jerry's last name is "Peach Hour" That is how he introduced himself to me :-) As far as the Dots on the Schon's go the best person to ask would either be Bob Runde or Evan Clarke. I have spoken to Evan many times and he is very happy to answer any questions and very personable.

Here's an old Schon that doesn't have the two dots. The rest of the cue I've had refinished, but I wouldn't let them do anything with the buttcap...

Here is an older Schon (R9 I think) that does have the 2 dots so will be interesting to see if anyone knows! :)

>acually terry romine picked the word schon which means beautiful because it was short and appropriate it had the twq dots and is pronounced just like everyone says sean;)

Schon does mean 'pretty' or 'beautiful'.And it is pronounced like the name Shawn.
