Question About Sharking

Is this considered sharking?

Last night I was playing my friend's team and he chose to leave all his stuff right by my chair. I was looking at his chalk and it looked terribly dry. So, being a friend, I licked my thumb and put it in his chalk. I explained to him that this reinforced the consistency of his chalk and would probably make it last twice as long. That didn't make him happy, so I let him use mine.

Any thoughts?

If the person you were playing really was a friend, he should not be any longer!

Remind me to build a cube of chalk from 98% pure metalic sodium and some blue die, so that when someone wets my chalk cube it will errupt like a volcano.

I think it would be prudent to keep your fingers out of your friend's chalk.

IMO putting a wet finger in anyone's chalk is not good.

I was in a tournament with a player north of the boarder and I noticed he had his own personal chalk on the table. One was masters and the other one was masters. I miscued on a very important shot that I just had to put a little draw on. I looked at my tip and I could not even get chalk to stick to it.

After the match I noticed that both pieces of chalk were gone.

I have never had that happen in 40 years of playing. I had to sand a bunch off the tip.

I don't know what effect wetting the chalk would have but I know whatever was done to the chalk I was using was totally bad to the bone.

I watched this young man play 2 more matches. He never put any of his chalk on the table again. He lost the second one. Too bad he didn't have his magic chalk on the table.

I'll get him next time and just beware of the chalk.

Does anyone know what he used? I've been around for a long time and I never had this happen before. A new one last year.........

He was probably just peeved that you didn't directly lick the chalk for him. I mean, what else are friends for? Next time make sure to fill it up with a giant loogie, he'll be eternally greatful.

I think you know perfectly well that is not sharking. I think you know perfectly well it goes beyond sharking to being an out and out a$$^%#e.

That's what I think.

edit ... Wait, I take that all back. After re-reading your post, I see that you were playing on a pool team. Probably no different than most, drinking and playing pool. How could you know any better under those conditions.

I just happened to see this little gem after checking out a pool tee shirt link today.

That was sharking of the worst sort. You should have put something truly awful in his chalk or the bottom of his cue case where he would find it by the smell in a week or two in order to remind him it is poor etiquette to leave his stuff by you when you are playing. Oops, just noticed y'all were on the same team. Just use his case as a foot rest until he gets the hint. Forget anything I ever said about a well aged sardine in a cue case.

Desert

I live in the desert of Arizona and I've noticed that the chalk does get dry and powdery. I could use a friend like you.;)

I probably would have advised him regarding the chalk but I would not have wetted it at all, or would have asked first.

But if I were attempting to shark the person (something I ABSOLUTELY do not believe in doing) I might have wetted the chalk with some DOT 5 silicone brake fluid hehehehe...

Yeah, but I try to save it for those truly in need.

As far as it being a joke, all I can say is .... After owning a poolroom and watching the complete brain dead idiots that come to play in those league night neanderthal drunken circuses that disrupt the rest of the people trying to enjoy themselves, I just wouldn't be surprised to see a question like that coming from most any of them being completely serious.

(not that there aren't some very nice people on pool leagues mind you, I just estimated that question on better than even money being serious after my experiences with leagues. Not to mention, it just wasn't that funny to be a joke.)

And yeah, yeah, I know, the leagues help pay the bills and all that. I can tell you this, it's better not to be a pool player and love the purity of the game if you open a poolroom.

Sorry if I over reacted, the question triggered a flashback.:thud:
