My local pool room is about to re-cover all their tables. The Tourney blue Simonis that they are taking off the tables is still in decent condition. My question is, can I re-stretch this cloth and use it on my home table? I know Simonis is a little harder to stretch anyway. I would appreciate any and all advice or tips to do this. Im not a pro at it but I do know how to install the cloth. I re-stretched the original cloth that is on my table now when I originally bought it and moved it to my home. Not sure if it matters or not but I do not know if it's 860 or 860 HR. Thanks in advance.....:thumbup:

I'm no pro either, but if the staples are removed properly, I know cloth can definitely be re-used.

I think it is silly to re-use this cloth. The cost of cloth is practically nothing, and it will last about 10 years (mine did), on a home table and you want to reuse the cloth?

I have the same feeling for linen wraps on cues. It costs nearly nothing to get the re-wrapped and then you see folks screwing around with them when the cost to just rewrap is nothing.
Some folks I just dont understand.

Some might not like this,,but here goes--If you do this--Wet the cloth down well before you start tacking it down,,let it set for awhile before the tacking though--this will let the fibers loosen up and you can stretch it easyier,,when it drys out the cloth will be tighter on the table--might help,,might not--
About price, new Simonis 860 for a 9 foot where I see it sold is over $300.
I just bought a 9 foot, and had Simonis 860 put on it, They said the HR really wasn't needed for a home table, more needed for pool halls where the cloth takes more abuse. They charged and extra $200 for an upgrade over the normal cloth (I think it is well worth it). Also Simonis used to send a wider piece, but now it is just barely enough to cover the table with maybe an inch or two to staple it. The installers said they had just done this recently, so don't know how much is on the existing tables, but either way you can't use the stapled areas, so agree with the earlier comment about going to a smaller table.
If you are getting it free, it is worth trying I think. I also like the idea about flipping it

I have simonis 860 on mine (8 foot table). I had my table moved from living room to the garage. They disassembled it and used the same cloth. They actually did such a good job the spot lined up right again ! Plays great. Also if you take off the cloth make sure to shake it out real good. I was amazed about how much dust came off it and I vacuum once in awhile.
When I refelted my table last year I was also amazed at how much dust/dirt/chalk was not only on the felt but on the slate. I will be moving in about 6 months and will use the same felt when I set my table back up. I was thinking about sticking the cloth in my washer machine prior to re installing. Has anyone ever done this? Is It OK to machine wash Simonis cloth?
Do Not Put the cloth in your washing machine,,I tried that with a piece of cloth that I thought I would take and have a shirt made of..The fibers in the cloth swelled up to about 3 times the normal state and never went back to their original size--The Cloth puffed up--Puffed Up Real Bad It Did...LOL...That would have been one scratchy and itchy Shirt..
I wouldn't wash it. Its wool. Not good to wash wool.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. My home table is the smaller 8 footer and the pool room tables are oversized 8 footers and a few 9 footers. Gonna try and get the 9 footers cloth but the 8 foot oversized will work as well. Can probably get the cloth from 2 of the tables. This way I will have plenty to cut for the rails. Also, saving around $300 and getting decent Simonis for free! Seems like a no brainier to me. Thanks again.....:woot:
I am far from an expert however, from my personal experience on my table I have only replaced the rail cloth on every other bed cloth change.
They are actually replacing 5 of the tables and re-covering every table (15 tables total). The cloth is not bad, typical light ball lines from breaking. No cuts or tears. Good enough to try on my home table before I purchase new Simonis.
My table is camel. I'm actually going to install new rails. It's An American Heritage Britton model with the original Camel cloth. It's in pretty good condition but I just want to try the Simonis. All the tables in my area that I play tourneys on are all Simonis and I love it. I think it will help my CB speed control if I play on Simonis both at home and elsewhere.

I completely agree! Practice on same to what you compete on. Ideally, same cloth and same rails but the latter is not as easy as the former. Same balls (and condition) helps too, of course. I might add (though this thread is a couple months old) that it is a better idea to re-cloth the rails every time you re-cloth the slate. Reason being, the action between ball and cloth will change when either is replaced. So rather than creating a weird "fast table, slow rail" or "slow table, fast rail" combination, replace them both and the change is more closely balanced. Just my 2 cents...0.0135 cents after taxes. BTW how did your re-use of the Simonis work out? I am guessing quite nicely?
