Question about what helps YOU feel in the zone

Breathing

Might sound silly, but I am a 3rd degree Reiki practitioner.
Set yourself down in a quiet spot and make yourself comfortable.
Put your hands on your thighs and relax.
Tanden breathe, Fill your tummy up first before your lungs. This is a proper breathing technique that you should use all the time. Visualize energy running up from your toes all the way up to your head. Pause for a second and release it with your breath out and make it run down your shoulders, down your arms and out your hands. Visualization is kinda hard at first but not rocket science. It will come.
Intentions are very important in life so set your intentions while meditating to playing a great game and winning. Visualize yourself stroking the q ball and ob going in the pockets all the while winding yourself down.
It only takes a short time to wind yourself down a bit and soon you'll be able to tune out everything around you.
In other words Luke, become one with the pool table. LOL.

Getting into the zone is very hard for most, especially if they are taking on players at and above their own skill level.

Tournament experience is a big help as is much of the advice already mentioned in this thread.

For me, to get into my zone of near best play is to be very focused on just working hard at the table.

To blank out most other thoughts, to not think about winning or losing the match, about bad rolls, about people watching, or about anything else that distracts from the actual process of shot choice and shot execution, one shot at a time.

I think this is a different type of zone than some people get into. Some want to just relax and flow, but I think that style can often slip up. It may feel easier and more fun, but it can lead to poor shot choices and lazy execution.

So work hard at the table and try to enjoy the fact that you are in the arena where playing really matters and have the opportunity to train yourself. It is the place where you learn most about what really makes a pool competitor. If you're not enjoying it, and not working hard to play your best, then you're not learning how to become a competition player.

The Zone is what keeps me coming back....

I don't find it often but when I do it is heaven....

I am a very technical person ....in my normal play I decide the exact spin the exact speed I pick a tiny spot to leave my cueball... and in THAT zone I can hold my own...

but... there are days when all the technical falls away...

I see this shot and where to go next to leave an easy ball with a chance at the next one. and that is ALL I think about

I don't choose spin... spin just happens ...

I don't chose speed ... speed just happens

I don't choose position ... it just happens

catch me in that zone and I can beat ANYONE..

it doesn't come often enough nor stay long enough for my liking..

it is 100% feel....and as soon as I realize I am in it... I'm not anymore...

I am a fast player. I move quickly shot to shot to shot.. when I think to much the yips set in and I rattle balls..

But I DO have my days.....
