Question concerning Pat Diveney

Pat Diveney

I agree with every one else about Pat's cues & if you decide to buy one call Pat directly don't mess with some dealer. If you are interested in hearing a very good story about what a good guy Pat is let me know & I will put it in a PM.

I bought this sneakie from Pat back in January and I just ordered a new fancy cocobolo no pointer from him. Pat is a GREAT guy to deal with. the hit of his cues is awesome! I am ordering new lakewood shafts with my new cue also and this time im pretty sure im going to go with ivory joint and ferrules. You cannot go wrong with anything you get from Pat.

I need help.

I can't figure out how this cue in the pics can referred to as a sneakie. It's a fancy no wrap cue.. at least that's what I would call it.

I'm also wondering about your choice of ivory and lakewood. Now I am no cue maker so I need some education here. I thought that lakewood made a cue hit very stiffly and I thought that ivory joints and ferrules softened the hit.

If both of these assumptions I've been laboring under are true then lakewood and ivory would sort of cancel each other out. Or not??

I'd appreciate some help with this... and the sneakie thing.

Thanks, Jim

Apples & Oranges

You are comparing Apples & Oranges. Stiffer refers to the spine of the shaft, softer refers to felt impact in your non bridge hand.

Ok... but I'm still a little confused. I don't mean to argue here. I want to understand... so... it seems like a stiffer spine will result in more feedback in the grip hand but ivory will result in less feedback/vibration in the grip hand.

Wanna know what I think? Thats a fine cue there, man!.. J Hennessee came thru town a few weeks ago sportin a Divinney, and the hit was great - Good and stiff with enough giive for a good feel. I am looking for his website if it exists, to see about having one made. I assume you have his contact info?

Just met Pat at the DCC, and he only had a handful of cues with him (10-12). Great guy to talk to if you can - what I mean by that is EVERYONE was so crowded around his cues, oohing - ahhing - and drooling that you had to push your way thru to take a good look at them. Looks like he give you a ton of work in a cue for the money. I didn't hit any of them while down there, but have stated before that after trying one of his butterfly sneakies that it was the best feeling (I know, subjective) cue I've ever played with....

I will have a fancy wrapless made by him once I have enough $$$ built up in my TOP SECRET account (the one the wifey doesn't check, lol). He had a purpleheart (forearm) with bacote handle and points with him that I about bought right there....woulda been impossible to sneak that past the wife though... :( -to quote Wayne Campbell, "it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!"

I am a tough customer and have been playing with Pats cues for 13 yrs. He is a real players dream cue maker. Customer service is excellent. I have two fancy sneaky petes and a 2 piece break cue now. The other custom cues I have bought but can't bare to part with are just there for collecting. When its time to play for a little money the Diveney is always the go to cue.
