Question for a mech or shop owner

So I bought a new table about a month and a half ago with a lifetime warrenty. Well after about 3 weeks I noticed that 1 of the corner pockets wasn't dropping clean and would actually spit the ball back out onto the table.

So I called up the shop and they sent thier installers out to look at it, and they agreed it was a bad pocket. (hand made leather pocket) I guess it wasn't molded properly and part of the hard leather was making the ball jump back out. (mostly at about lag speed).

Well they ordered a new pocket and it's been taking forever, so in the mean time the cloth right infront of the pocket, right about where the slate ends is starting to tear because the balls are hitting it when popping back onto the table.

I called them up to let them know and the shop owner tells me that they're not going to replace the felt because that's not under warrentee, but they might be able to re-stretch it.

I told him that the only reason it's tearing is because of the bad pocket and all other corners are fine.

What's your take on something like this? I'm gonna give them the benifit of trying to re-stretch the felt but should they be responsible for the cloth tearing do to a defective pocket?

Cloth is never warrantied for this exact reason. To be frank, after the pocket was identified as a bit defective you should have not played as much since you knew the pocket was rejecting balls. That slit is a direct result of that ball hopping out multiple times and hitting that spot.

Those cloth cuts are caused by a sharp slate edge and the rejected ball hitting it.
Had they glued on a cloth edge strip and smoothed the edges before covering the slate you wouldn't have that problem.
When they come to repair that make sure they smooth the edge first. The cloth can then be restretched in the pocket and glued down.
Done right you won't see those cuts.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to supervise every move they make from now on. Just sucks, you spend a couple grand on a table and everything and a warrantee issue causes another part to fail.

And the table hasn't been played on since I identified what was going on with the pocket and noticed the splits.

Did you pay by credit card......Or maybe call manufacture and explain or see who they may want to send out to make factory repairs...

What kind of cloth is on your table?

To be honest I'm not sure. I didn't ask for an upgrade or anything, just what they offered with the table. It's my first table and still pretty average player so didn't think I would notice a big difference until I started playing more.

Gotta admit though in the short time I've been playing my game has elevated and now running 4-5 balls during league vs the 2-3 I was before.

Now only if I could use my own table...

Just curious how much you paid for this table? These are the types of problems you will face buying the cheap chinese tables.

Cloth splits

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to supervise every move they make from now on. Just sucks, you spend a couple grand on a table and everything and a warrantee issue causes another part to fail.

When they fix it as Dartman outlined, I'd try to get them to do all 6 pockets. It won't be that big of a deal while they've got it apart, and it might save them a trip back later. One month is very fast for that cloth to cut, regardless of the pocket, and it should have been done correctly the first time anyway. You don't want the same thing to happen to the others down the road, and neither should they.

The table is a DLT Lido. I got it for 1600. It's an 8 foot.

I'm familiar with these tables. Since there based a few miles from me I've seen alot of them. One of the other things contributing to your problem is that the front of the pocket is close to the back of the slate which doesen't give enough space for the ball to fall very much after it bounces off the back of the pocket. Nothing you can do about that. I would suggest that you get a hood brand pocket, pull up the cloth in the pocket, sand the radius until there no sharp edges and and a thickness of cloth to the inside of the pocket like dartman suggested. call me if you like 714-943-7137.

heres a well designed pocket by Diamond Billiard Products. See how much space is between the pocket and the slate.

Thank you guys so much. That pocket looks just like mine, minus the space I don't have:(

The installers told me that they were going to have the manager order new pockets for the whole table because they are hand made and a new batch might not match the color 100%, let's see if he is as willing as they are.

I'll also tell them about the shaving it down. I'll give u a call maybe sometime next week, they have the pockets in and gonna come out next week.

Have a Merry Christmas.
