Straight pool is mostly offense. How did you learn to kick at balls? Is there a video available that will teach how to kick or is it something you have to pick up on your own, or have someone show you?

If you are really serious about learning to kick from a hidden position, ask a local three cushion billiards player to teach you the basics. You don't have to be a world champ at the game. I never learned to jump balls. If I were the pool dictator, I would ban the jump shot. One of the best "pool" games is nearly dead because most new players want to jump balls. It looks cool and you sometimes make a ball. Learn three cushion basics and you can do most of the same things and foul less.

Hear Hear: If I were a room owner I would ban jumps. But then, I would also ban juke boxes, television sets, cell phones, smoking, 9 ball, etc. How long do you think I would last?

I walked into Break&Run this afternoon and recognized everyone there with one exception. He was by himself and everybody else was already teamed up and shooting. I asked Tony about the loner and he said, oh yeh, that's Tom, he's a nice guy, go get a game. So I asked Tom if he would like to play some 8 ball. He smiled and said, well, I'm just practicing, and I only play 9 ball. I don't really like 9 ball, but I wanted to play pool, so I said, well, I'll play 9 ball, but if you just want to practice, that's okay. He immediately said, sure, I'll play, but I don't play for money. I replied, that's fine with me, I'm not a money player either. So we played 9 ball for 3 solid hours and had a good time. I would say he had the edge on me about 20%. If we get together again I'll see if I can get him to play 10 ball. If not, I'll play 9 ball.
