i have a custom Rick Howard that i play with and was offered a bit more than what i paid for it, so my question is this... what would you think this cue would be worth??? it had 2 shafts, made out of Birdseye mable with cocobolo inlays... 6 points with 18 inlays in the handle and 6 more points in the butt plate... i know the price of the cue is whatever someone is willing to pay but it just peaked my interest a bit when someone offered to buy it... anyway thanks in advance and here's the pic.

by the way... the pic was taken from the front page of Ricks website... its the only pictures i could find of it since im at work right now.

if the shafts are both 13mm and the cue is in excellent condition.i would say it might bring $1000.

you've obviously never tried to get one of his cues... lol... his basic 6 point cue with linen wrap goes for that... but thanks for the opinion...

also the size of the shaft shouldnt matter but they are both 13mm and the cue is in perfect condition. (just got it about 2 months ago)

Unfortunately I am just started a few months ago getting deeper into the world of the custom cues. But what I know, or at least would like to ask (8-]) is that, as I can see, you play pretty much pool a week. Since you have that cue for quite a long time and that you play that much I reckon that getting used to a new cue is something that you may want to think over twice. Please do not misunderstand me, I am trying to be kind and ask something I just don't really have the proper English to do so...

So, I would like to kindly ask you whether you would like to take the time that it takes getting used to a cue.

As for me, I have my forth cue and am willing to sell this right now because I am fond of playing with something new, experiencing new cues, seeing how they were assembled, etcetc. I am a pool cue enthusiasts but that's just me...

Anyways, if I, personally, were given a great offer, than I'd sell my cue. Now you may want to ask, what is a great offer... Luckily there are great forumers here (that's why I love this forum so much) who are going to answer this question. I am curious what they will say!

P.S.: that cue looks very-very nice indeed.

I told you what his cues will sell for on the market. :) They just don't pull what he charges in my opinion. No disrespect to him and I'm not downing your cue at all. Oh, And the size of a shaft matters a lot when it comes to value. :D

well what i meant by it shouldnt matter is because i have 4 shafts... 2 12 3/4 mm shafts and 2 13mm shafts... so i have that part covered whichever way the buyer wants to go.

what a cuemaker charges for his cue is never the same price u will get for it when u sell it. unless its from a very select group of cuemakers, the cue will not hold the same value as when it was completely new...not on here anyways.

obviously you are clueless about the used cue market, and yes i have owned a Rick and and no the 6 pointers don't bring $1000.the shafts being 13mm are just as important as the condition of the cue for your used cue knowledge and the plain 6 pointers rarely do more than $700.sorry to burst your bubble.i will sell you a 6 point Ebony into Maple with veneers right now for $700 shipped if you want it.that is $300 less than it is worth.you should jump on it.if i remember correctly 9ball had one that took months to sell at $600.

You asked for an opinion and he gave you "his". No need to get chippy with "him" for it. If you don't agree ignore it and move on.

FWIW I've been dealing with "him" for apprx 6 to 8 yrs and I would estimate the value of cues which have flowed through "him" to be north of 200k. His foundation for rendering opinions is solid.

You might consider ebay for a barometer for actual market value.

I like your cue!!!:)

Umm, I think Mason was right on target - maybe even a little too kind!

Frankly, I don't think you'll get 1K in this market.

I'm not knocking his work, and am not saying that his cues aren't "worth" more. Rick Howard makes one helluva nice playing cue!!

But like Mason, I've seen way too many 6-pointer Rick Howards sell for considerably less than 1K. It's a reflection of today's market, not how good of a cue Rick makes.

Hey, you asked for opinions.......

actually i am basically clueless when it comes to resale value of a cue (hence why im here) and i dont really consider this cue completely used since i have 2 shafts for it that have never hit a ball, and the cue is flawless... but my post wasnt meant as it comes off, because i am looking for others opinions and didnt mean to get "lippy" with him... but im sure he isnt upset... if he is then i do apoligize though.

It is IRRATIONAL to take into account the original price of a cue when selling it.

it maybe be 2 months old and u may have new shafts but the fact remains u have used it...at least the butt part. even if they're not used, u still wont get the price that the cuemaker charges on this board.

Glad to read the apology. I was sending you a nasty note!

You need to be ready to hear the truth sometimes even if it hurts. I was going to say $850-1000. If someone offered you more than you paid for the cue, and that figure is more than $1000, I would sell it, kiss him on the cheek and run!

I would not give up my cue for any price. (I mean the ones that i'm using, not selling :) )

There are very, very few cuemakers whose product will sell for more than the original owner paid directly to the cuemaker, and that is usually after many years of waiting (and now that Southwest has gone to current market price instead of what was quoted 8 years ago, there is one less).

Even Tim Scruggs cue do not hold their value like that in the short run. A 4 point, 4 veneer basic cue direct from Timmie is $1900, but you will find them on here and available, very lightly used, at around $1500.

Like with a car, as soon as you leave the office, you have depreciation of 15-25%...maybe more, with some cuemakers. That is not to say that if you hold onto that product (or cue) for 10-15 years like many collectors and speculators do, that it won't be worth a lot, but not very many people can do that.

90% of the guys here and all the guys that chimed in here are very knowledgeable about cues and cue values.this board is a more accurate barometer than even Ebay, but i agree with Adam Ebay is a great place for you to go back and look at Howards that have sold.Ebay also deals more in luck.meaning you might steal a cue worth $1000 for $600 or you might also sell a cue worth $600 for $1000.on Ebay you might find the guy who has to have your cue and will pay whatever, here at AZ it is more business oriented, and you will get about what your cue is worth most of the time.between Ebay and this place, the market is set.used to be Ebay, but i feel like this place has heavily influenced the market on many types of cues.Rick Howard makes a great cue,but if you get $1000 you have done well even with 4 shafts.Ribdoner knows his cues too and whatever amount i have bought and sold is a peanut to what he has done.when are you coming to Nashville Ribdoner,i thought Alex said you were coming.
