Alright...

I'm watching and bidding on a cue on ebay...(I've already bid)

I've sent a list of questions inquiring about the cue...
Here are my questions...

How old is it? Do you know what year it was built?
How long have you owned it?

Is it straight? Together and apart?

Condition? on a scale of 1-100...?
Nicks, Dents, Dings, Any finish issues?
Is the finish all original?

Are you sure that the butt cap is Ivory?

Is the joint ivory?

What condition is the shaft in...has it been sanded on, or is it in pretty much original condition?

The seller replies...

"too many questions, don't bid"

What do you think? I think he's a obviously an idiot.

But I've currently got the high bid...so obviously I'm an idiot, too.
Now I don't want to buy it and I'm hoping that someone out bids me...but at the same time I don't really want to pass it up. Dilemma!

Why are people such D!ck heads?

do a bid retraction

hopefully it isn't inside the 24 hour window for retractions. i don't like to do them but if i don't like the auction, i may and have. i like ebay but they are some grey areas in there. right now there is 9 thousand and two hundred cues on ebay. three weeks from now there will still be 8,500-10,000 cues there.

I'm with you on the why are people question. However, in case you don't know, eBay does have a provision whereby you can withdraw your bid (if you are really hoping someone outbids you).

Let me know if I can help

Kevin

Well, I put my bid in two days ago...when I sent the first list of questions...he never answered...so...

I waited patiently for 2 days...and this morning I sent him the questions again...

And then I got his response just a little while ago...

Is it too late to retract my bid, since it's been 2 days?

How much time is left in the auction?

Well, I just figured out how to retract my bid...

So, it's now retracted...

Thank You !!!

Ebay buying

Remember that you can always return the cue stating that the item was "not as described". Also ALWAYS buy with a credit card and you can initiate a "chargeback" whereby Paypal would be left holding the bag for the payment if the sided with the seller. For this reason Ebay will protect buyers over sellers everytime as long as you file the dispute in a timely fashion.

Well, I think something is kinda funny about this sale...at this point...

...if he wants to sell it...why not answer the questions...

I don't think the questions were out of line or anything...we all know these questions are common to us in the cue world.

Now I'm thinking he's got something to hide.

...and I thought about going ahead and picking it up...from what I can tell it's probably a good cue...but now it's about the principal of him denying a better description of the cue...

...I think it's only proper to know what your buying...

I always figure if the guys a d*ck life is too short and the odds of you ending up wishing you didn't do the deal are high.

Pass and move on to the next one.

That is the longest set of questions I have ever seen posed on an ebay cue. If it is a mid level production cue then I can understand his response. On the other hand if it is a high dollar custom cue then I would want those answers too - but I think I would break it into 2 or 3 questions in each inquiry and see if our relationship grew. I do have one question though: How could anyone render an opinion not knowing what listing you refer to? Is it a secret?

Well, I need to keep the cue on the down low...because if it goes cheap, then I may jump back in and try to steal it (90% chance of this not happening)...but I won't know until the end...that's why I haven't posted the link or given much info on it...

...so I do apologize to all of you...about that...

It is a custom...not a fancy one...so it'd be a cue to play with...at the hall...but I still feel that he should be open to answer the questions.

And as for asking a few questions...at a time...I prefer that - if I'm interested in something, to ask the questions that need answers, all at one time...(no beating around the bush) and that I'd buy it as long as it met my expectations...but to my dismay, he doesn't want to share the pertinent information that would allow the completion of the transaction.

Had he any social skills or applied any form of sales intellect; we would have advanced our relationship to a buyer/seller relation...rather than two unknowns.

You are keeping it secret so you can jump back into an auction that you have already WITHDRAWN a bid from? That's ummm... interesting?

Yea...it's a strange situation that was brought on by an inept seller...

He even states in his post that if you have questions to contact him.

It appears that he has a limit of how many questions that an interested buyer is allowed to ask.

...and obviously, I have exceeded the limit of questions that are allowed...

Does he try to give you a good description in the action?

If you are asking duplicate questions, that might be a problem for him. I sell on Ebay all the time and my feedback is 100% positive. If I have the description clear and people ask me something that I have already listed. Which means they did not read the auction clearly, it gets to me a little bit. I still answer the questions though!
It happens all the time, I have everything about the Item listed and they ask me a question already listed in the auction! I may ask them did they read the auction write up about my Item! Perhaps he has gotten to many questions asked about the auction. He not be the original owner of the stick either, nor a pool player at all.
Remember that Ebay has a buyer protection plan if the Item is not as described! Or there is a problem with the Item.....

Besides you know what will happen anyway. You'll be sitting there with < 1 minute to go and the bid will sail past what you were willing to spend anyway. That happens most of the time for me. Now I just enter what I'm willing to spend and let it go where it takes me.

Your questions were completely reasonable. I would ask the same things if it wasn't clear from the description. You made the right choice getting out. Chances are the cue will not be what you hope.
