Question: Which cuemakers make thinner handle cues as a standard dimension

I have become most comfortable with cues that have a thinner diameter handle usually around 1.00-1.05 at my grip hand and tapering to 1.16-1.19 at the butt cap. I can't believe that you can feel that much difference between a cue that is 1.25 at the butt cap compared to 1.18 at the butt cap. I think the 1.25 is a pretty standard size at the butt cap but it just feels to large for my liking. Anyone know what cuemakers typically have a thinner handle as there standard dimension. I have a few very nice cues that I no longer use since I got used to the thinner handle in my Frey cue.

Morris, Buss and Espiritu.
1.250" might not be too large if the cue has compound taper.

My Choice

Bob Owens Shurtz Custom Cues
I have an Espiritu and a Buss. I would go with Shurtz or Buss. JMHO

Most compound tapers put more meat in the handle area by increasing the wrap joint diameter. This would make the butt feel fatter than a normal tapered butt with 1.250" large diameter.

Mike Webb

Mike has made two thin handled cues for me. Superb hitting and at a very resonable cost.

I also owned a Ned Morris with a thin handle. He changed the way he joined parts of the cue to maintain the playability characteristics with the thinner handle. It plays superb.

Perry Weston

Perry Weston cues with flared butt caps are thinner than most.

I also like a thinner butt in general, the taper I am using currently is as follows:

Joint - .845

A-joint - .970

Butt Cap - 1.210

Most of my customers do not even know they like it until they have tried. I keep two finished cues around so that people can test hit balls, one with the above taper, and one with what I would call a standard Taper as follows:

Joint - .850

A-joint - 1000

Butt Cap - 1.250

Have a good night!!

Tad cues come standard with a thinner butt, im not sure the size but I felt it since I first started playing with one. I get all my customs(that I order) with thinner butts.

It is a BIG difference. I usually play with a BCM (1.25" butt), and just recently had a Mike Erwin Custom in my possession. I measured the butt because it seemed really thin. Turns out it was exactly 30mm or 1.18".

I know this has already been mentioned but I'm going to say as well that Ned Morris makes a great cue for what you're talking about. Have a look at his website at morriscues.com

Schmelke

I just received a new Schmelke yesterday and was taking the measurements, weights, etc. The butt seems very thin compared to what I'm used to. Will have to compare to other butts to see difference. It just feels very thin to me. I will confirm, later with exact mesurements.

Cue Diameter

I know that Kevin DeRoo makes cues with smaller handle diameters. I have one that he made for me, I really like it compared with the larger diameter Predator that I have.
Hope this helps.

Mike is who I was thinking of as well. He just recently brought the buttsleeve down for me on mine and my next cue from Mike will have the same. He can pretty much do anything you want.

I don't get this - I thought compound taper referred only to the shaft taper. What am I missing?
