I am new to 9 ball, what do you guys mean by "give me the 7" etc when you are talking in terms of handicapping.

How does it work?

Giving the '7' means that the seven becomes a money ball just like the '9'. If the person receiving the spot makes the '7' they win the game. There are other variants like the Call 7 or "called 7" which means you still win if youaake the 7 but only if you call it. Stating the number of the ball in the spot only like "he will spot you the 7" means that for you the 7 is "Wild" any time you make it, even by luck or on the break you win that game. I hope that helps.

Its helps a lot, it explains it perfectly.

Thanks mate.

I think the only time you will see a spot with a "name" is the Orange Crush which is pretty much what a pro would play a C or B player with. It's all the breaks, the 5, and ball in hand after the break (at least when I have seen it).

There may be other "named" spots but that's the only one I have heard of.

hang-the-9...In my recollection, the Orange Crush is the 5 out and the breaks (no ball in hand)...not just the 5ball. Definitely a killer spot, but I've seen pros outrun it. Doesn't matter what the spot is if you don't get to the table! LOL

The last time I gave a guy the 7, he picked it off the table, put it in his pocket, walked out the door. We never saw him again.
