questions on cleaning a cue?

i have two questions for you guys,
what is the best way to clean my cue, not really sure what to use on the shaft? anything specific?
i have a wrapless butt, what would be the best way to clean it?

For the shaft I use Mr. Clean magic eraser followed with a good buffing at high speed by hand with a piece of soft unfinished leather.For the butt I use auto polish.

Don't use Magic Eraser on any clear coated, shiny surface because it will dull the finish. For the rest of the cue, just wipe it with a lightly dampened cloth, and/or buff it with a soft cloth.

Cleaner

One of the guys that goes to the tournaments and does cue repair uses a dab of Orange Goop on a paper towel. Cleans it from ferrule to butt and then uses dry paper towels to finish it.
 
All that has been said is great. The only this I would like to add for polish go on the net. or to your local music store pick up some good guitar polish. I use Dunlop a small kit 2 bottles one cream of carnauba the other bottle is a cleaner an has a soft buffing cloth. :smile:
 
By the way I would try the LP shaft wax after you clean your shaft. The gentleman there seems to have a great ability in making cues an great knowledge of woods. He owns LP Custom Cues, I'm going to give his wax a try. :smile:

Dan Dishaw used to highly recommend guitar polish. Don't know if he still does or not.
 
I tried the product Q-Clean for the first time ever last month and it did a good job. It took all the blue off of the shaft and ferrule.

Similar to what I do but I use denatured alcohol instead of water. For me, I find that alcohol dries much faster and doesn't raise the grain as much.
 
ferrule

Soft scrub with bleach is great on the ferrule and ferrule only. Course I just keep the chalk away from the ferrule....
 
I use the Magic Eraser to get the blue out of my cue shaft. As mentioned, just use it on the bare wood, not on any finished section.

Or you could buy http://www.ozonebilliards.com/17809.html which is an amazing cleaning device that isn't anything at all like the Magic Eraser for 10x the price, hehe. I love marketing.

this is by far some of the best advice i have seen to clean a shaft. this is how i do it now and have had no problems. by the way thanks for that step by step with pics. don't know if i ever sent green for that but i am right now.
 
I always use alcohol when cleaning my cue ... either vodka or scotch. I hear denatured alcohol is also ok to use on a Magic Eraser to clean the cue shaft.
