Quite possibly the most undeserved win in a final in the history of pool

I understand a lot more than you think. You don't want to believe what happened to your "hero". It's clear that you don't understand the game of pool. That's why you guys keep posting like small kids. And creating threads full of negativity.

As I said before, maybe tomorrow you will think more clearly.

I can only speak for myself, but had it been ANY other player playing against Ko, or any play Ko played that got those rolls, I'd say the same thing.

So who in your mind is the best player in the world? I can just as easily say Ko is overrated by your logic...which he isn't.

First he is not my hero, he is a friend. I understand the game very well due to the pool players I have been lucky enough to surround myself with.

Your jealousy of a skill level you will never reach is embarrassing. Why don't you just thank the players for great entertainment and skills.?

Shane is not only a Great player but even a better person. Sit down and eat with him outside of pool. The subject of pool doesn't come out unless you ask. Here is why is his great

"Thanks for everyone support. It was fun and pleasure playing in the finals. I feel like I am at top of my game. But fell short from couple mistakes that cost me big time. Ko play great and he deserve the win. It was great match and experience I will never forget. Congrats to Ko pin yi. Thanks everyone for positive support. off to London tonight and will keep you all posted for World Cup of pool in few days."

Maybe he doesn't have the title but he his better than Great

What I remember my past tournaments is... Many times opponents get lucky but almost everytime it because I made mistake and they get chance to get lucky.
Luck is lack of skill. Because we can't never get perfect. It's always present.

How do fans react during the Superbowl? I realize that there were idiots in the chat, no doubt but things like that get said by every other sports fan.

Maybe I just expect too much. On that, I'll accept the fault. AZ is a f-cking circus today. I'm gonna go chase balls into holes. Have fun complaining about the rolls in 9-ball, everyone.:lmao:

No jealousy at all. Right now I don't think anyone is a "great" player. I have seen "greats" from the past and I think Shane has not reached their level yet.

Just my opinion.

Again it really isnt about rolls in general because those were rolls on steroids and meth.

First let me I say I was pulling for Shane or any American to win, I root for my country, most people do.

To me Shane looked the strongest mentally through the entire event. At this level skill it's pretty much an even playing field, ITS ABOUT THE BRAIN.

Shane fading or being a pro because KO was getting more rolls or luck is ridiculous. Shane had his chances and fell off mentally, it wasn’t luck that cost him, he cost himself, and he admits it. Shane was plenty lucky when he blew position and this dumb game let him play safe.

My stream cut in and out so I may be off a little.
I think at 9-8 Shane made a large error and cost him the game. He then went on to make more errors that cost him the match. He came up very short on the 3 ball and played safe; and not a very good safe. KO jumped for the 3 and caught a roll.
The only reason KO caught a roll was because Shane did not perform on his position for the 3….period, mentally falling off, collapsing

Off the break he pushed out on the 2 ball, KO gave it back…Shane took about 2 seconds and took a poke at probably a safety that he sold out. He took more time in a less critical situation, but blinked his eye and shot that 2 ball, mentally falling off, collapsing

9 ball is a dumbass game. You can reward yourself for screwing up fairly easy shots or position, and then play your opponent a lock up safe, as Shane did. Now your opponent takes a swing and gets lucky and the world is saying how lucky he was because he caught a roll, meanwhile you dogged a rack your are suppose to win, bring back push out.

If you dog easy shots, make poor decisions, don't execute solid position, etc, you deserve to lose. That goes for me, you Shane and anyone.

Shane had this match to close out and be the Champion; he went brain dead on a few shots. Shane is all class and doesn’t make excuses. He wins humble and loses humble, he is a fantastic player and champion and will be back for more tomorrow, win or lose.

In the end KO was an eyelash stronger mentally and closed the deal, another fantastic player.
Maybe Shane will get the rolls and win another U.S. Open

My friend, you really refuse to accept the outcome of a pool match !!!!! What's going on with you ??? And you are not the only one here as I can see with all these negative posts !!!!!! Shane accepted his loss and you guys keep posting negative about Ko who just won the World Championship !!!!!

I will ask this again. What should Francisco Bustamante do after the 2002 finals ??? Kill himself ?????

It's a f...ing GAME !!!!!! Come on !!!!!!!!!!

I agree with most of this other than the fact that Ko missed more and made the 9 when he shot the combo at the corner. Very rarely does stuff like this happen in pro pool because most of the time the pros don't make that many mistakes. In terms of overall performance in the finals I still think shane showed a better game.

Let's apply the bolded part to the most recent turning stone. Does Mike Dechaine's performance diminish Jayson Shaw's victory at all? Does Mike get extra points for coming all the way through the b-side to barely lose in the finals?

I agree and to push the luck notion further.....Shane was mentally the best i have seen him yet.. Just as on can get on the roll cart...the air in there was cold and the lights hot so as the match went on table conditions changed as well. Shane did out class Ko as a player and came up short. He changed his break as the table became faster made many more adjustments as well.(well managed the match) Alternating break has more of an influence than I would have guessed. Never really gave anyone to get say a 3 pak up on the other thus changing the momentum. The atmosphere of the match because of it was sterile in a make it take it match Ko may have really choked after being down....although i doubt that too. elvis

I understand that rolls are part of the game, but this was absolutely sickening. Shane really deserved to win.

No actually he didn't because what happens between the 20s means zero unless you can punch the ball in for the win when you have the chance
Shane had his chance in the end his break failed him unlike Ko who broke and ran the rack before ,,
In the end it's not how it's how many ,, right now it's Ko 2 Shane 0

Get over it ..,

What is a lucky player supposed to do?

Should Ko have simply raked the balls after he got a good roll?

Should he have purposely missed the next shot in an attempt to "make it right"?

Should he have forfeited the match outright after a few lucky rolls?

If by getting lucky you suddenly do not deserve to win does that mean the unlucky guy should automatically be given the title?

This is 9-ball. It is by it's nature a game with a lot of luck. People whined it should be called ball, whined about lucky safes, they basically argued that the rules should be changed to be identical to 10-ball. Well guess what, Ko is the current world 10-ball champion as well, not sure how... tougher to win by shear luck in it, but he somehow managed it. I guess maybe he can pot a ball once in a while when he is "not" just getting lucky.

Ko played two kinds of matches in this tournament. He played lucky matches, and he played nearly flawless calibre matches. Either one SVB was going to end up facing was going to require a stellar performance to beat, and SVB missed "just" enough not to quite get there. Ko got lucky, but he also missed a few uncharacteristic shots in the match that SVB got games off of. The scoreline of this match is pretty much what people expected, a close battle for the title. The way it played out is a little different than people expected though as neither player played at the level they showed in prior matches.

Each match is unique, players show different stuff. Orcullo played like a unbeatable machine against Appleton, then he went on tilt early in his match against SVB and put up no fight to speak of and that was the end of him. Should SVB feel bad about that win because Dennis did not play well? Hell no, he shook his hand, took the win, and moved on and Dennis went home. That is 9-ball, that is pool.

Well said.

Quite possibly the thread title with the most sour grapes in it today....
....although the day is not over.

Big Ko got luckier than Shane,,,,but he's good enough to get lucky.
...and he handled his good fortune with class....
....rather than fist pumping, he would tap the rail in apology, like the 3-players.

Get used to the Ko family, you gonna be seein' a lot of 'em.

On paper no, but I'd still say "That's brutal, he deserved to win if there was such a glaring situation in the finals. Again Ko earned his spot to play Shane and there is no doubt about that. Just like Jason did.

I really do like the Ko brothers. There is another one thats gonna break out on to the scene with a huge splash.

I know it isn't realistic but it would have been nice if Ko beat Shane because he played perfect.
