Quote for a new TAR website

Quote

"There's some league player in Wisconsin that knows exactly what to do here" - John Schmidt TAR 28, rack 19

It was a hilarious quote from the epic rack 19 game, being a cheesehead, I loved it! That game had it all, from Schmidt's crappy second ball break, defense, strategy, incredible shot making, choke job (cattle prod shot), back and forth end game safes, until Corey finally sells out and John gets the win.

I bought the replay and just that game made it worth it. I didn't get to see every game but I still feel like it was a great deal and am thankful that Justin gave those of us who can't see it live an opportunity to see some TAR. I sincerely hope you get the new website figured out, and I believe you'll be rewarded for it. I plan on being a member.

Well, I guess I'm not cool enough to post for some of these guys. Whachya gonna do. Gotta love the ignore feature.

Don't take it personally, emf, but you didn't quite get the kind of quote that JCIN was after. Reread his first post a little more carefully.

OMG, I was being sarcastic with the quote. I thought most would find it funny, I thought it was hilarious when he said it. I know he was trying to have a serious thread, I was just trying to give him some props.

I was just bullshittin......

I had nothing else valuable to contribute to this thread so you got quoted on your quote for a quote.

I get it now...

Honestly, I laughed my ass off when JS said that.

Secondly, when I first saw the title of this thread I actually thought Justin was asking for a quote for the website, i.e., a motto or a sig line or something. Then when I read what he was asking for I realized he wanted an actual tender for website work. It did cross my mind to post a smart ass quote like you did. But when I realized the seriousness of Justins request I opted not to.

I'm glad you posted what you did bc it made me laugh.

I'm sure deep down if Justin or anyone else reads your post for just the humor in it they too will laugh.

Everyone needs to lighten up a little...

Based on my research that is exactly what I need. Host the videos on Amazon, payment through paypal. Where I am stuck is the monthly/yearly membership and securing access to the videos. All I want is the same thing every porn site on earth has I just want to fill it with pool content.

I appreciate all the suggestions. I am looking for quotes. I did a thread similar to this months ago and got nowhere so now I am offering cash money to someone who provides what I am looking for. To those who posted serious replies I thank you.

The problem is that anyone who is going to give you a quote based off of the information you provided isn't going to be very thorough.

If I were going to bid on this project I would want to sit down and get a good idea of all sorts of figures. For example(there are many things to know beyond this): How many videos do you have, how many viewers do you have. What is your future plans. If you meet this and you're using amazon your cost is going to be this, is that going to work? What kind of profit margins do you need to maintain on bandwidth? Are you planning on integrating an ad based systems? What's the current bandwidth usages you see. How would you want to administer it (Can you edit html/database entries or do you need an interface). Do you have the understanding to manage an amazon account? I assume you'd need ongoing support for infrastructure. Most likely someone technical enough to manage the backend isn't going to be doing graphical work. So you're looking at at least two people or a small company (Not just some joe who knows how to make a website).

If you want something that works you might get lucky with the first couple of guys that you stumble across. If you want something that's going to work well and scale I think it needs more than just give me a quote and hope the guy does a good job type of thing.

I think ideally you want to have the project scoped out to where you know that this this this and this are the best technologies available. Split the project for the proper skill sets and go in expecting it to take this long and you should expect to pay this amount to the two or three guys you hire to do this.

Good post...

I am a shooter. Have been since I was a kid. There is a lot pool can learn from the gun industry. For instance the fact the gun industry has had self financed weekly shooting and hunting shows on cable for the last twenty years and has now broken into the mainstream with shows like Top Shot.QUOTE]

You're a shooter? I used to be. How about we do a three gun competition. You choose the guns and course. I'll give you a grand for your website if you beat me. You give me a grand for my new pool hall if I win. I haven't done any shooting in a long time so you should be in good shape on this. I'm old and slow now. I haven't shot anything since '98.

Where I am stuck is the monthly/yearly membership and securing access to the videos.

I didn't answer this in my last post. The technical answer is you use a backend authentication system that keeps track of payments and accessibility status. Then to actually secure the content you would use amazons authentication token system. A token is a short term key that allows access for a specified time. So your system would access amazon and ask for a token. Then when someone with credentials on your system wants to watch a video you give them this token (this happens by using a url variable like: aws.amazon.com/video?video=tarvideo&token=3984fj438fj) and it will allow them to stream the video. It expires after a set amount of time.
