Special person in my life. Mr Lenny Y..........

I met Lenny in the 70's at the old poolhall that used to be downstairs from the one upstairs now. Can't remember the name right now.

We soon became good friends. I watched back then when Lenny would do his trick shot exhibitions. He put on a pretty good show.

I still remember when I saw him shoot this shot where the cue ball went in the bag and out of the bag and made the last ball in a fairly complicated shot. I knew then that this guy was a very special person in this pool world of ours.

I had just discovered what most players that had known lenny all his life knew already.

He was a fine person and would do just about anything to help you if you needed it.

When Lenny found out I was teaching and traveling he was really excited about it. I stopped in his shop and showed him what i taught. He offered to film and do the whole video with no cost whatsoever. That's the kind of guy he was.

Always trying to promote the game and help everyone play better.

I talked to him about 3 times in the last 6 months as he shared some of the challenges he was facing. His voice was pretty raspy the last time we talked but he was still upbeat about his condition.

But I know he knew what he was up against.

Lenny is one of those people that had a big influence on me at a young age.
He was an inspiration to me then and still is today. After traveling and teaching i know now how rewarding his life was with giving everything he had.

If there is such a thing as reincarnation there's one thing for sure. If Lenny had a choice he would come back as Lenny again.

I don't know how he could do any better. When they say the mold was broken after this guy or that. It holds strong when it comes to this guy for sure.

A very Special Guy.....Lenny DePole.

He knew people had trouble not only pronouncing his name but spelling it also so he would just tell them Len DePole was fine.

Thanks Lenny for being my friend.

I for one will miss you dearly.

I too am saddened to hear of Lenny's passing! The very first pool "lesson" I ever took was with Lenny way back in late fall of 1983. He was indeed one of the finest players to play out of LaCrosse, WI. We crossed paths many times in league and tournament play in LaCrosse through the 80's and early 90's. He was always willing to help and give pointers about the game. Geno mentioned his trick shot exhibitions. What I really enjoyed watching was his finger pool that he picked up from Mike Massey. R.I.P. Len De Pole, you will be missed!!

Gene,

The old pool hall in LaCrosse was called The LeCue Club. When it moved upstairs it became Top Shots.

Regards,

Randy

Len was my mentor and one of my best friends. He took me to pro events posed as my father when I was not of legal age. A lot of my best memories involve Len. He was a great friend to many.

Lenny had a great sense of humor............

I was living in Arcadia and i would go to LaCrosse every once in a while to find a pool game.

This was the late 70's I think.

It was the first time I met Lenny and we played $5 9 ball.

I had one of those nights where i just made everything and lenny was a little off.

I won 21 games in a row. It was crazy.

Lenny won the 22nd game.

I asked Lenny why he kept playing after losing so many games? Why did you play so long?

He just turned to me and said. I just wanted to win one game.

Then he showed me that great big smile and I knew right then we were going to be friends for a lifetime.

I was looking for Whitey when I ran into Len.

Billy Steele and Whitey and myself were always at battle back then.

I wish I would have learned what they knew about the food back then.

it was back then that Len was doing all the trick shot shows also. He created so much entertainment back when hardly anyone was doing these things.

If they would have had a trick shot competition back then Lenny would have been right in the thick of it for sure. He was really good at it.

I can remember I started watching at this one bar. I just couldn't stop.

I was mesmerized.

Lenny was just having fun. Doing what he enjoyed the most in life.

Playing pool and entertaining.
