MMMMMMM It sounds like i detect she is starting to get pissy about not being the top dog anymore.

She hasnt won the first two WPBA events, and now she gets ousted by a unknown! And is pissy about it.

I will agree that a Race to 5 is stupid in a major event, but so is the alternate break that has been one of the many reasons why Allison has stayed #1 for so long.

And now it seems like shes getting her knickers all bunched up cuz she doesnt like the format. Well, I'm sure there is plenty of ladies who didnt like winning a game to put them on the hill, to only have to turn over the table to you, when your already on the hill to sit and watch you run out for the match win.

I did notice something the other day while watching a re-run of the Jasmin vs Allison BCA title match. While Jasmin had control of the match, I could tell that Allison was looking upset and like she was in, unknown territory. And could really see it, in one of the last racks, where Jasmin plays a very good safe that left Allison with no counter move.

And I could see the dumb founded look on Allisons' face like WTF do I do now? my opponent is on the hill and I'm not.

I love how girls like Pan and Ga-young are comming out with a vengence and not holding back! WOOT!

It's true. Allison and Karen are facing some stiff competition these days and that's all good. But c'mon, a race to five, winner breaks, in a major tournament. That IS a joke!

It's alternate breaks in the round robin format. The format was copied from the men's world championships.

Think about Efren losing to Tony Crosby in the mens WPC. Tony's no slouch but he's not a household name by any means.

The organizer of the tournament makes no apologies. He says the loose pockets and short races do produce upsets but that means better TV and consequently better support.

There is no entry fee for this event. All the prize money is put up by Amway.

Even with alternate breaks, it is just to short a race, especially for a player who has gone to considerable expense to get there. Race to seven is already short enough.

Efren lost that one fair and square. Honestly, his play in that match wasn't up to par. And the 9-ball he missed to win the match? Absolutely embarrassing.

a race to 5 format in that kind of competition is not ideal for players of such high caliber. these are not B players that require shorter races. a race to 9 was created and the default format for pros inorder to meet the required balance or say fair deal to both competitors.

I'll agree that I hate watching the COC for the mens, doing two race to 5 sets. Its like WTF? Why not just do a race to 11? winner break? or even Alternate break going to 11 or 13?

Now as for the ladies side, yea a race to 5 sucks big donkey dick. But its not like a race to 7 is that much better lol.

Now in a perfect world lol, everything would be atleast a race to 9 winner breaks, but it isnt that way.

God bless Allison. She is the first player that ive heard to bring up some of the obvious absurdities with current televised pool. ESPN while although atleast putting world class pool on TV is also in my opinion destroying the game. Mitch Lawrence's idiotic commentary aside, it is an absolute joke to have a race to 5 in any professional tournament. Pool can learn a lot from other sports. Take tennis for example, even in a race to 7, that would be like playing one set. Or playing one quarter in a basketball game. Playing four innings in baseball, or deciding the masters half way through the first round. Ive never understood why they dont make these races to 20 or 21 something where luck is less of a factor. Those numbers sound big, but really they arent. Can't we standardize this game. Make the GD pockets smaller if that cue ball touches a rail, it should not go in. Anyway until ESPN respects pool and understands it, unlike mitch lawrence( I don't know how Hopkins puts up with it) we will be stuck with a truncated, neutered, microwave version of the real thing.

I heard that they are going to make the golfers at the Master's play 7 instead of 18 holes per day. That way, they are leveling the playing field, so other golfers have a better chance of beating Tiger!

exactly my point, the reason it levels the playing field is because shorter time of playing means more luck period.

This is so true. Besides, when was the last time you saw pool on TV where they did not skip all over the match and only show a few games? Since they only show a few games anyway why not make a longer race? There's a better chance for some amazing shots to appear with that many games anyway, and the players will be happier.

Race to 5 is a joke. She's absolutely right. ANYONE can win - and that's not good in pool, the best player should win.

I played in a tournament, bar-box 9-ball, that was race to 3... I beat Tony Roberto and a few other A players and then went hill-hill with Corey Deuel, then went Hill Hill with Roberto again for a 3rd place finish and $800
I'm a B player, and wouldn't beat these guys going to 7 or 8 no matter how good I'm playing... and I almost snapped off the whole thing.

I'm not a fan, even if it makes it easier for me to win.

The short race is not good but with as many matches as they are trying to get into 4 days, i understand why they are doing it.

Has this tournament always been races to 5 in the group stage?

I have to say that I agree with Alison's point of view on short races, anything shorter than a race to 9, sucks so bad it could suck the 9ball through a garden hose.

I honestly feel that any tournament that doesn't have a decent length race to 9 or more, really isn't worth the travelling expences, because if you're going to pay an entrance fee, you should at least be be able to get your money's worth :)

While I agree short races are no fun, and they even the playing field. EVERYONE in the event paid their entry fee, and incurred costs to get there to play. I think it's great for the players that are dead money, donate every event, get smoked, and come back for more next time. Allison should think about all the players that will never win an event, have no sponsors, but fill the field FOR HER TO WIN!

She really should have thought about that before whining about short sets. What does she want?....race to 21 and 10 players showing up to bow at the ankles and hand her the trophy?

Gerry

Allision is right to say that in public. Race to 5 is a joke, a bad one. That being said, I think she is feeling the foot-steps on her tail from these young players. Johnnyt

In WPBA, quarter finals are a race to 9, but semi-finals and final are a
race to 7 for TV. It is a bigger joke.

I think people are forgetting that the race to 5 is part of the round robin format. Not only that, but the top 3 out of the 6 advances past the round robin.

I would agree that a race to 5 single elimination would be pathetic, and a race to 7 SE wouldn't be much better. But if you're complaining about not passing through the inital round robin stages race to 5 each match where all you have to do is be in the top half of your group, sorry Allison but you're just whining.

I do remember one local novelty tournament about 10 years back (Top Dog ?) with a race to 2 format that got participation from all around Southern California that Tang Hoa won. Just imagine the pressure on each and every shot !! That was a real interesting tournament to see if a true top dog player would manage to win the whole thing !

But that type of novelty doesn't belong at the championship level. I thnk the race should be 9 minimally. A race to 5 with large pockets is really a crapshoot for B players on up.

What she meant to say

I think what she meant to say was

"Losing any race sucks"

Losers always complain. And that might be the problem with pool, you only get one winner and lots and lots and lots... of complainers!!!

Tip: If you feel a tournament is a joke - don't play!
