Race to 9, factor the weight

Here are two weight scenarios, both for 10-ball (call shot):

1. Getting BIH after the break on your break only
2. Getting all the breaks and the last two

The game is 10-ball, call shot and the 10-ball does not count on the break and the race is to 9.

Which weight is better to give/get?

A. Pro vs. Pro
B. B Player vs. B Player
C. C Player vs. C Player

My thoughts:

Scenario 1 allows the better player to run packages in theory, but allows the worse player early 10-ball combos and early safety options, not to mention running out is easier if you start with BIH.

Scenario 2 never allows the better player to run packages, but how the worse player is breaking is a huge factor. In a game where both players are struggling, the last two make a bigger difference.

So which would you rather give/get?

As a B/C player, I'd personally rather have all the breaks and the last 2.....IMHO, it's a huge spot for a B or C player....

Judging from what I've seen at the pro level, I would guess most pros would prefer that as well......even though they don't get BIH, getting all the breaks is a huge advantage if you can consistently pocket at least one ball and have decent control of the rock....

I'd rather give up BIH on the other players break for a B/C match-up.....B/C are not a threat to run out a 10 ball rack on a tight table very consistently....

I would think a pro would rather give up BIH on the other players break also.....giving up all the breaks and the last two seems like a much larger spot....

My two cents....

Assuming this is winner breaks? Also, do you get BIH after break only if you make a ball, or no matter what?

In any case, I'd probably rather have BIH after break playing a weaker player (I'm a high B low A). Playing a strong A or pro, I'd rather have the breaks and the last 2. I have a pretty strong break and can make balls maybe a little better than 50% of the time in 10 ball.

My $0.02

The break does not come into play nearly as much in Ten Ball. I still would rather have the last two. It isn't much weight either way. You won't be seeing any "packages" playing Ten Ball, even by pros. Two racks is a good run and three is fantastic!

Scenario 1 is huge weight for pros down to probably high B players. For C players it might be a hinderance because they can't run out or play safe well enough for the ball in hand to matter.

KMRUNOUT - Yes, winner breaks is the format and BIH is given after their break whether they make a ball or not.

For the B Player and lower, I'm thinking scenario 2 is the better spot. For A Players and above, I think scenario 1 is better because with BIH after the break, they will probably get out most of the time. Scenario 1 gives the spotted player complete control after their break.

On a really loose table, I think I'd like getting the spot in scenario 1. On a really tight table, I think I'd like getting the spot in scenario 2. :p
