Rack-A-Shot

Shot #3: I made it, but it takes a lot of adjustments. I think I ended up close to a diamond away from the spot. Basically, just line up the two balls that need to be made in the pockets, allowing for throw. I also ended up putting just a bit of angle on the cue ball direction to get the side pocket ball to have enough speed. I have a video if you want to see where I had to line the shot up from.

Shot #11: Couldn't get it. Got 3 balls a few times. Also tried playing around with the alignments and such. I think it's difficult with all of the balls frozen in a line. The way I do it on my website, I use a gap between the two center balls and move it back to put a bit of an angle for the outer two balls.

Also, I didn't actually try, but there might be a couple shots that would be awkward for left handers. I'll have to flip back through the book to let you know which ones they are. Any lefties trying this out?

I would love to see your video.

Me. Leftie. And I have shot #11. Have only made 3 of the 4 balls so far. Still at it though.

Should have video of every shot done sometime next week. Would you you prefer I just give a quick compilation of all the shot being made or would you prefer the whole set-up and conversations between me & the team mates that wanted to try it?

I just saw this thread now and I'm late to the discussion.

One question regarding the mechanics of the tool. Does it matter if you have 2 1/8 in vs 2 1/4 in balls? Do they still touch frozen?

I have some ideas for your business model though.

Encourage users to create new shots, place them on your website so people can print them out and use them with their system. Open development would lead to a large library of challenging shots!

It would seem that a polymer based (plastic) rack should be injection molded for lowest production cost and should not require any final finishing.

I hope you are working on a patent for this tool! The idea could be hijacked and replicated.

It looks great, best of luck from Austin, Texas!!

Thanks!

Yes, the whole set-up would be great! Thank you for all your work. Did you have fun in the process? Any suggestions?

:)Can you upload to YouTube?

Here's my video of shot #3. You can see how much I have to move it over. I just worry about the sightlines for the two balls that need to be pocketed, which is the way I think it should be. If someone tries to keep the indicated ball on the spot, it could be frustrating. Maybe it works with cleaner balls or a shorter table though. Mine throw a lot.

Hmm.. I must be an idiot, I thought you were only supposed to use the 2 Balls indicated to go into the holes.. Whoops..

Correction

Tim, this is the correct placement of the object balls. Thank you so much for your help in perfecting the mistakes. We appreciate everyone who is interested enough to stick with us and dialogue about it.

The placement of the object balls by the outside corner of the end pockets, is what requires the shooter to shoot with the speed needed to make a ball on the break with more regularity and leave the cueball in the center of the table. The two balls the cueball strikes need to separate from the break shot force in order to make the object balls—the strike must be perfect to make both object balls. When the shot is executed with a little low English the cueball is lifted off of the felt and hits the object balls a little high in order to get the results needed.

Sorry to be so long getting back to you.

First of all, injection molding costs a lot of money and we do not have that much. I didn't try to raise the money because the way the rack is manufactured is within 2000th of an inch.

We have a patent pending.

From my understanding, slightly different size balls work because of how the holes are chamfered.

We would love to hear any advice about our business model—from anyone.

Thanks a bunch,

Keith

I would guess that you're using an acrylic or polycarbonate resin for the template. Acrylics and polycarbonates are fairly high in cost compared to some other material you may want to use. Polystyrene is very inexpensive but you won't get the transparency. Check around for other materials.

Lexan Polycarbonate Sheet

The best and hardest and most break resistant we could find.

Bulletproof and perhaps overkill in my opinion, but I'd check with some materials or molding engineers for something less expensive that will do the job.

I think it would be beneficial to all if you would add some conversations between you and the team.

I am more than thankful for your support. I, excuse the expression, have prayed that Rack-A-Shot would be favorable to the billiards community. If the system is worthy, I would like it to be in the schools and teaching academies. Please, do what you think best.

Hope is all I know for sure. When all who are supporting this endeavor prove Rack-A-Shot to be worthy, all will reap any rewards we are given. If Rack-A-Shot is proven to be unworthy, the learning process will have made us better players and thinkers.

Blessings

still having trouble

With shot #11. Couple things I have noticed though. Showing the foot spot right under the hole .......... does not work on the tables I have tried this one. I almost have the foot spot against the 2 center balls and on the short side of the table ( hope that makes sense ).

I am still only making three of the balls.

*sigh*

Back to the drawing board ( table ) for more attempts. Someone else was having trouble with this shot (also a leftie ) and mentioned separating the 2 center balls but that defeats the purpose of the template. I'm thinking my english needs adjustment. When I get this down and recorded, I'll go back for the rest of the shots. At the rate I am going Keith, this may be the longest rehearsed 1 min video ever attempted :D
