Racy pictires. Are they necessary?

Demeaning women with salicious avatar pictures, yep that sure is an important part of this forum, and life in general eh? Respect.....what's that all about? Then it must be acceptable to ''slightly'' bully another person if you don't too far, or does common sense come into play.

demeaning? it's women that are posing in those pictures. it's their choice and they're the only reason those are out there at all.

Bully? you mean how you're trying to self righteous everyone into doing what you want? Why is it so important to you that everyone else change because you don't like something. it would be so much easier if you changed. these people chose to have those pictures as avatars. just like you get the right to pick yours they should be able to pick theirs.

don't wanna see Homo's kiss don't go to frisco. don't want to hear about a woman's cycle. mute the tv when the tampon commercials come on. don't want to see racy avatar pictures........ MAKE EVERYONE ELSE TAKE THEM DOWN.

maybe you should try the WWJD argument next

ps.... i'll carpet australia and you do the rest. this shoe idea is for the birds!!!!

Ok your right..........

Agreed.

it would be so much easier if you changed.

Agreed, but sometimes people have strong feelings and compromise isn't an option.

don't wanna see Homo's kiss don't go to frisco.

Agreed, but I don't want to see it anywhere. Frisco is a beautiful city with a lot of history besides being pro-homosexual. Public is not where it should be done. I don't particularly want to see heterosexual couples kiss in public either.

The point is this is a pool forum and not smut site. It is no more acceptable to have these avatars on here as it would on a Disney site. It is a lot easier to avoid a particular thread like the funny pic thread than it is to avoid racy avatars when surfing at work or in public, etc.

The moderators decide all the time with each and every thread that's written.

(Sorry for the length of this, when I get going...)

Actually, the moderators really don't, unless it's brought to their attention. Which is beside the point, really...

As I pointed out to you in an earlier post, there are truly very few avatars here that wouldn't pass primetime network TV standards. An incrementally huge number of people, a multiplier of a factor my poor math-addled brain cannot fathom (help Sean?) watch primetime TV far more than view this forum. It is probably a pretty good barometer of what is considered acceptable in todays society, for the most part.

Those few avatars that wouldn't pass the primetime TV test would most certainly pass the basic cable standards, again something viewed far more than this very successful forum.

That doesn't mean you have to agree or like it. What it does mean is that those of us that have avatars that offend you are actually far closer to the majority of todays societies standards. If you don't like what is in an avatar here, you can eliminate them. If you don't like how images are portrayed on TV, you can change the channel. I know many people who feel the same way you do about TV.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm saying you are in the minority, and what you are considering "too racy" isn't the way most of this country feels. Today, in 2011.

Also, I don't believe this forum is making many first impressions about pool to people new to the game. Folks would have to have been exposed to the game first before ever likely finding their way here. I would expect their impressions of pool have been formed before they found us. If their impressions of pool were to be affected by the content of this website, I can think of many worse examples detrimental to pools image beyond a few avatars. Gambling? "The chop"? Hustling? Just to name a few... and those are considered part of the fabric of pool. Yet those topics seem to me to be worse for pools "image" than what my lobster-girl avatar looks like.

Who decides what's racy?

Don't give me that duty. :p

Only a few avatars I have ever complained about. Most all are pretty cool by me. So, that means IF (as an example) it was up to me, the OP and the others who agree with him would not like my choices.

Just goes to show the different perspectives people have on what is racy or not, what is acceptable or not, what we tolerate or not.

I know what you are saying, but there are A LOT of other things that can be done to help with the perception of our sport outside of limiting avatar pictures. Comparing golf forums and people to pool players is a bad example even though I know why you mentioned it. Pool is not an athletic sport, is more of a gamble sport, and draws a completely different crowd than golf.

Your only argument is when a new person is looking on the site for a first time but even then a person can turn off that avatars if they join. I highly doubt there are that many people that see it and say no way I am going to read or join that site. Does it happen? Sure...but I bet not very often. This site doesn't seem to be lacking of participants.

Some people don't know as first time visitors to our world....How To Turn off Avatars, their first interest would be to look around the AZ site.

I know there are allot of other things, but every little item that's addressed adds up, and the publics perception of pool players is not real high on their list, why create even ONE more reason to not join in. Keep in mind, over 95% of all pool table sold ea yr go into homes and as we all know, KIDS are definitely in those demographic numbers.

Comparing golf, now here's an area where posters say often we should NOT be compared, but for the many years I played with the pros, one complaint that came up ALLOT was they wanted to get the paychecks the golfers got, that's a fact. So if ya want to walk like a duck............................
