Raj Hundal strong words about 9-ball/breaking/the rack

So If He won?????

So if he had won the match, would he have still acted the same way? I think not.

He was whining after a loss, simple as that.

Did you guys even listen to what he said? He doesn't care at all that he just lost, they split the money anyways. He said go back and look, there was no moving, all the aspects of the game that define a great player from an good player were taken out of the equation when the soft cut break is being used so effectively. Cut beak, make 2-3 balls, have a shot on the lowest number ball, run out. I think he said it best when he said "I didn't feel like I was playing pool neither did he." There is no soft beak in ten ball. Ten ball is real pool. You are going to see more pool in a race to 7 ten ball than a race to 11 nine ball, especially if the soft/cut break is working. If you are stringing ten ball racks on a big table you have a world class break. The only way to maximize your chance of making a ball is breaking like a monster. I for one agree completely, watching the WPC this year it was kinda boring to watch the greatest players in the world playing like they did. Ten ball it is more a test of who is the better player than who can beat the game.

"If you can't get hit em' and if you can't keep the pace then guess what get up and go get yourself a day job or somthing cause you aint a pool player."

haha.

Apparently you missed the thread where everybody was bI&*%ing about corey using this break in 10 ball.

True but he still had to outplay his opponent in pushout situations not get a clear shot at an easy out half of the time. Still not as effective as the SVB break.

I think he would have IMO. He was expressing his opinion. I think he would have stated it the same way before the tournament started. Like he said the trophy meant nothing he was offered to split the tournament money I don't think he gave a ........

possible

I believe that he may have simply mentioned his opinion of the cut-break and moved on, had he won.

But, still don't believe he would have expresses his opinion of nearly as strongly.

But, anyway, what's done is done. I'm sure alot of the anti-cutbreak pros will eventually start using it. Especially, if they are continually losing to players who use the cb.

I just read the whole thread and ....Damn you guys are brutal. Lot of hatin goin on in here. Brutal.

Raj is a nice guy and one of the funniest guys I have met. He also cares a lot about the game and plays it hard. While some of the stuff he says I don't agree with the essence of it is right on.

Raj will say what he thinks and I am willing to bet that he knew that interview would shir up some shit. Personally I think the game needs personality not just "He played great. Not my day" People don't give a crap about players who are not passionate about their game.

Hundal is not afraid to call it like he sees it and whether you agree or not you have to respect him actually saying something rather than just coming with the canned answer. The part at the end where he challenged the whole country was pretty strong. LOL....I like that dude.

Sounds like he's mad because he lost. Sour grapes I guess. I appreciate the link.

EDIT: spelling

would you please edit my spelling ;)

The essence of what he was saying is that it wasn't Imran's fault regarding beating him using the soft break. When he was venting he wasn't venting at anything but the rules of the game not at any particular person. He did say that he could beat Imran in every aspect of the game except the cut break. But I think that was a side note to his overall argument, which was either make ten ball the game that everyone plays, or change 9 ball to make the cut break ineffective.

Now Im actually not sure how I feel about the soft break anymore. I used to think well, within 9 ball you do what you need to do within the rules to win the game. A base hit vs a home run? A great assist to facilitate a great goal? I think they both are good. So lets try to separate the good from the bad in what he said. What was good is that we need to go strictly to 10 ball. What was bad or not correct is that someone shouldn't do everything they can within the rules of play in 9 ball to win.

No one breaks at 100% power every time. If they did, we'd see a lot more balls flying off the table on the break. In other words, the smart way to break offensively is to strike a balance between giving yourself the best chance of pocketing a ball and maintaining control. Everyone knows that, so I think Raj is being a little stubborn to continue using a power break on a tapped 9-ball rack.

Definitely go ahead and lobby with passion for changing the rules to how you think they are best but when you are in a tournament, work within the rules and give yourself the best chance to win. Maybe you hate 9-ball and love one-pocket, but that doesn't mean you do a one-pocket break in in 9-ball and then get upset when your opponent breaks normally. No, you break the way that gives you the best chance to win the game you're playing, which in this case was 9-ball with a tapped (perfect) rack... way different from 9-ball with an "OK" or "good" rack.

Talking down about his opponent because he's frustrated with the rules or regulations just made him look bad, but I won't hold it against him. Even as an amateur, I'm frustrated with the whole issue of racking. So I can imagine that a pro, who makes his living from the game, would be very annoyed that such an important issue is still not solved yet. Of course, being that opinions vary so widely, it may never be resolved to everyone's satisfaction, so you just have to deal with the conditions you've been given and make the best of it.

On another note, he did say the other guy was sharking him too, so maybe there's a little history there that we don't know about?

Raj is right, but he does sound mad because he lost. The rack in nine ball is a joke and thats the ONLY way some people can play good (Donnie Mills:D ). Ten ball should be the game but it is mostly nine ball so you can't really do anything for the sport. The one good thing that it does is change up the winner so you don't always have the best person winning.

That's a good thing? That means you've made luck a bigger factor.

I like him too.

I watched a couple of his matches in Vegas and I think he's mainly complaining because he has a very strong break. The soft break takes away some of his advantage.

Its amazing to me that he seems to want to turn the match into a who gets luckier on the break contest.

I would rather see a guy repeated do something very well... thats what Pro Level is.

Best way to get it changed is for him to adopt it and dominate for a while. Then the crying would start and a change would be made. Now it just looks like he is upset someone is better at cut breaking then he is.

So he only wants it his way ?????

The best putters in Golf would love to shorten the course and the longer hitters would lover to make it longer. However they adapt while mastering what THEY are good at.

Why take give him an advantage while taking a cut breakers advantage away. No logic there.

Someone needs to figure out a way to give each guy equal chances at doing something. No one to blame but themselves that way.

Haven't read this whole thread so this point may have already been made:

The Mosconi cup which DOES get on TV and DOES have ratings to worry about was smart enough to change the rules of the break so that to get a legal break those guys had to obliterate the rack.

The year before they were hitting the break at stop shot speed and it WAS lame to WATCH them break.

I am all for making pool more entertaining. Pool may never be super popular for tv but on every level the more entertaining it is, the more $$$ there will be for the players and everyone. Even at smaller tournaments.

I'm glad this topic was brought to our attention.....I want to add it really really bothers me when my opponent uses the sissy break when playing one pocket.... ;)

Raj was not sitting at a bar whining about losing to a bunch of his peers.

He clearly had an agenda to tape an interview as a plea to the guys in charge to make the sport he loves better. He made it controversial enough to get it aired to the masses so clearly his plan worked.

Imagine how many people complained when the forward pass was introduced in American football when they normally just played smashmouth running plays. "That's sissy football." certainly must have been one phrase uttered frequently. Guess what. They made football probably twice as entertaining.

In my opinion it's okay to change rules around to make a certain sport more entertaining and the NFL does it all the time to encourage more passing etc.

Was Raj dissing his opponent? Yes. Did Raj think he had been sharked by his opponent? Yes. Have we ever dissed our opponents after they sharked us or made a move on us? Yes.
