Random Derby Thoughts

Thx that answers the question. That “boat” law was stupid.

However........I bet the casino is now “raking” more pool economy money out of the action room than ever.....

Thanks for the answer,
Fatboy :)

The bar definitely is. There is now a full bar with seating about 3 feet from the escalators. I dislike the smoking, but it was a great place to hang out and socialize.

Coffee is on me! 😆😆🤣🙈✌️

I’ll be there 100%

Kelly(my girl) has a staph infection and is super sick, can’t leave her alone and disappear at a pool tourney. She’s gonna be fine but I have to do the right thing and be here for her. That’s a bad illness, I got it in 05.

Hope your well my friend!!

Best,
Fatboy

PS: I’ll bring twice as much next year ;) j/k

They are if you don't mind ending somewhat after the nine ball finals, which puts it at sometime after dawn on Sunday. :(

The problem for the tournament was that most of the finalists would go deep in the nine ball and Those Who Set The Schedules think 14.1 is some kind of shoe size. The problem with the qualification phase was that the limited number of tables at the Horseshoe (modest convention area) meant that the 14.1 tables kept getting sidetracked to one pocket.

Just my opinion from the cheap seats:

I always thought the event would be better off as a pure high run contest without the double elimination. I also thought the $100 should buy fewer attempts.

I do miss sweating it though.

I hate the smoking too but I have to say the ventilation system is pretty good, so it’s not horrific sitting at the bar if you’re a non-smoker.

Don’t forget some Matzoh ball soup for Kelly. Your ass better take care of her.

So, where the food concession area was, is where the bar is, now?

Eric,

Give my best wishes to Kelly for a fast and full recovery. Cindy and I will be praying for her, she is a special one and definitely your better half.

All the best!!!

While we are on random thoughts...I haven’t ever really complained about it but the brackets/tournament schedule/results/scheduled matches are a mess.

I understand with the sheer number of entrants and the buy back option that this is not a typical flow chart tournament, however on the site, it’s not easy to follow, hard to update and looks like an early AOL web page from the late 90s.

I really only ever follow along through the forum and what accu stats has scheduled on their Live stream...but playing there must be a test in full patience and attention while trying to figure out your next match.

Do players just grab a chair and a book and pass the time or are there practice tables where they can stay warmed up at a nearby pool hall?

A BOOK??????? Seriously??? No, they go stare at a cheap-ass piece of Chinese plastic, errrrrr, smart-phone or go take a nap. Scheduling is a tad goofy but after all these yrs everyone is used to it.

The food concession stands are gone.

Now, about 20 paces outside the main tournament room will put you in slot city.

If you want to grab a table to practice the protocol is to troll the tournament rooms, wait for a match to be over, then slam your cue together and get whatever time you can before another match gets scheduled for that table. Looking for a champion clubbing a baby seal is always a good bet for fast availability.

Other than that, it’s a slog. Basically at the outset of an event, you play one match a day. Of course there’s plenty of good matches to watch, the casino games, and the bars. The Action Room is available but those tables always seem to be in use. But yeah, it’s a slog.

When I actually laugh out loud, I just can’t simply type the overused “lol” because it might imply I really didn’t since it is used so many times...but I really did at this line of advice on how to navigate the DCC.

You mean you won’t see any pool player reading groups discussing Nietzsche or Solzhenitsyn?
:D

The food pretty much is the same. It’s the buffet but they split it up into three restaurants. There is a noodle place I need to check out, and I guess the Mexican place might be new. But it was buffet-ish.
