Rasson table for World Championships........................

THIRTY yrs?? I've only played on one( OX model iirc) and it was the demo table in a billiard store. It played great to be honest. Like most any table at least 75% of how it plays is in the set-up.
I’ve played on several OX tables. They play plenty good. Let’s see what happens after 5 years or more in a pool hall.

I saw the Rassons and the predator tables at the super billiard expo. Didn’t think much of either. The Rassons don’t look like anything special but the lite colored did look better in person then they did on tv. the predator tables looked cheap to me and how they are charging $500 more then a diamond I have no damn idea.

Saw this was the tourn. table so i looked it up. Other than the slate it looks like junk to me. Sketchy looking base and very flimsy looking frame if you want to call it that. Might be ok for one event or maybe a house but this thing is no commercial-grade table by any stretch. https://www.rasson.cn/acurra-mr-sung What's y'alls thoughts??
I'm not comfortable with any table that uses nuts and bolts to assemble the frame. I understand some manufacturers may use extremely heavy duty hardware but I prefer made-to-order uni-body frames that are made in the USA to high end furniture standards. They'll last a lifetime. Just my opinion.

I think he was referring to me knowing nothing as I thought of the possibility of frame bolt loosening on aluminum and steel framed tables like the Rasson or Predator. Maybe there might not be enough vibration to worry about, but sometimes it don't take much.
On metal frames all you need is to use BLUE -NOT red- loctite on the fasteners.

they(diamonds) are too commercial( not furniture like) looking for an average home and not cool enough for a high end home.
but they work well in pool rooms that have a larger amount of better players. and home players that play on leagues and such which use them.

they have their detractors but they are good tables.

Hey @iusedtoberich , this came across my feed just now and I couldn't help but to think of your distain for the exclusive Diamond rail hop... enjoy lol
AIRBORNE!!!! currahee!!!!! That model of Rassson is a pos compared to a Diamond. ever seen one apart? Might be ok in a house but its not a commercial grade/compet. table. Rasson is supplying this crap in an attempt to get un-educated sucker buyers.

quite a funny ad.
the table are applied with the craft of solid wood over HPL

scared to say PLASTIC? wood over plastic? I guess its like veneered plastic? why is that a craft? do they employ specially trained wood over plastic laminators?

speak bad bad engrish much?

metal trims? poor engrish again.. trim not trims.. this is your brochure and you say trims?

grinded and then sanded flat .... They meant ground maybe? or were they referring to grandad? does grandad sand them flat?

"each slate could provide a resistance to collision,"

too funny,,,,,, If it could then why not ?How would the slate prevent collisions? Hey can that stuff be built into Chinese cars too ? ;) a collision prevention coating? You must admit that is that is very innovative.

Abscission , I had to look that one up it means :

the natural detachment of parts of a plant, typically dead leaves and ripe fruit.

Good ! You definitely do not want ripe fruit and dead leaves to keep getting stuck to your pool table. You know, I bet the competitors probably didn't even consider THAT problem..

especially for the Asian players - how racist !

"Luxious" that isn't even actually a real word.. they couldn't spell luxurious I guess, so that was as close as they could get - and good enough..

the round stainless steel sights matches perfectly with the metal trims.. yes , again, trim is already plural no need for the S,, its just bad Engrish

ABS electroplating technology,, yes you really do want electroplated plastic parts, No good table should be with out that ;-)

the ultra high levelers are to prevent cracking, Can they be removed if all the players are 4' tall

The cloth has "imported wool"
Maybe because sheep aren't safe in china?

" the table rails apply HPL over the table veneer"
Amazing !, I wonder how do they train the table rails to do that?

normally veneer is thin wood applied to make cheap garbage look like wood but they are applying HPL over " table veneer" .. sounds pretty weird. maybe its a plastic veneer so its plastic veneer over plastic veneer over plastic? that right ?

Do they slice up tables to make the "table veneer" ?

"Mr sung" sure doesn't pay too much attention to detail. This stuff is feeatured right on their own website.

Now where dit hat darnded poofreader get to......

I saw this table in person yesterday at the expo. Aesthetically it looked super good. I didn’t hit balls on it though. It’s 5k retail. They will sell imo.

I also saw the predator 9’ table in person. Online, I never really liked its aesthetic. In person, I loved it. Did not hit balls. Will go back and hopefully be able to on both.

Both looked way better aesthetically than Diamond.
I hear Olhausen is coming out with a tournament table

Ha!

My big fear is that since the Chinese copy "everything" that they will get a Diamond and copy it exactly. All these years they've mostly copied various GC's.
Maybe the Chinese can copy a Diamond and use their GC copy to morph both tables into the best table ever made.

i would argue the gabriels gryffon is definitely one of the best tables ever made. don't know where they're made but probably not prize competitive with neither rasson nor diamond

The Gabriels website says "All tables are designed, engineered and quality-controlled in Belgium and the majority of the parts is sourced in Europe." That may have been written before their current pool table models. But both of their pool table models, the Gryffon and the Sentinel, certainly look like fine tables. The Gryffon model is being used in the New York Cue Club, which opened about 6 months ago.

Well this is as good a thread as any. I went to a "new to me" room in Atlanta 2 Saturdays in a row to play in their handicapped tournament. Cues Billiards in Marietta. I loved the room! I'll be back for sure. They had mostly SAM tables, that were I'm guessing 20 years old. I had never played on them before. (of course we all know SAM makes the new Predator table). There were also 6 or 8 brand new Blue 9' Diamonds (edit, probably 1-2 years old), and also 1 GC4 I saw, and a few Valley or similar bar boxes in a corner.

The SAM tables were definitely beat up from the years. But, they played freaking perfect. The balls bounced off of the rails so nicely. Just like a GC. Some speed killed off the ball by the rail, and the angles were very predictable. I was playing jam up and ended up getting a cheering section, ha ha. I even placed third place in the tourney:)

The next week I go back and my first match is on the new 9' Blue Diamond. Holly molly, it's a pin ball machine. I'm playing a much stronger player, and win (he is giving me a big spot). I asked him to gamble cheap afterwards (edit, even), but I said I can't stand that table, I'll play on the SAM.

I still can't believe any one in the whole freaking planet likes Diamond rails. WTF are you all thinking? That's what I think every time I hear someone say they want to buy a Diamond.

It's like that psychological experiment where there are 5 people in on it, and the 6th person is not. There is a line drawn on a chalkboard that is 1 foot long. The 5 people all say the line is 2 feet long. The 6th person says you are all nuts, it's 1 foot long. After a long time of this, the 6th person starts doubting himself, and thinks maybe it is 2 feet long. I forgot what that experiment is called, I learned about it in some high school class in the 90's, ha ha.

Anyway, I'm not there yet in being convinced. Diamond rails are HORRIBLE. Have been since day 1, until today. Red, Blue, 7', and 9'. IDK what in the world Greg Sullivan was thinking. He was supposed to be an A speed player, and a good banker. Blows my mind a good player would have EVER come out with those rails 30 years ago! AND even worse, keep them today.
