Wow realy, no idea? I'm am truly surprised.

Thanks,
Jayman.

Word travels fast in this business, so I have no idea who the first American to do it was. The Russian cuemakers have done it for a long time also. Maybe before any of the popular Americans.

I got very curious about when i bought an Adam cue made in the 70's with re-cut points. its the first time I've seen them on an early Adam cue.

Most of the Adam cues were non wood seamless veneers instead of re-cuts.

I am waiting for Bill Stroud to send me back a re-cut pointed cue that has a Sideways JW in the butt plate. The cue was made in the 70s I believe.

I think Bender made it popular, though I suspect it was done before his time.
I don't think Mike was making cues prior to the '80s, so I would rule him out as one of the first.

Most Adam points are 90 degree seamed veneers.
I suspect you'r thinking of Vikings wico style points.

The green viking has saemless non-wood points.

The four veneer Adam Jim Rempe cue has typical Adam point construction.

The Adam A/H 35 has an unusual re-cut style. this is one the one I started the thread about.

Hard to tell but the second picture almost has tell-tale signs of a really good miter job.
The third picture is unique in that the angle of the recut was changed also...not just the depth of the cut.

No, I was refering to the Adam cues that used the seemless plastic veneers. They may have been bought from Meucci when he was at Wico also. I keep thinking Bob told me he sold some to Helmstetter, but don't hold me to that. Bob was making those blanks before Viking. He let Viking have it when he lost interest.

Oh yeah, I have seen those. they were used on one of the lower end cue lines in the eighties. They were made by Adam. as were all of their components. I know exactly what you'r refering to, as real as they look, I think they are actualy an overlay.
I may have one somewere. I'll have to dig through the closet.

But far and away "most" Adams with points had a very high quality mitered veneer forearm.

I don't know exactly what date it was made but the butt cap has the sideways JW and the Blue Book says he used that from 72 to 80. The cue has a chip in the Butt cap and that is why I sent it back to him so that the new butt cap would have the correct JW put back in. The cue is Tulip Wood, Maple and Ebony. It's been a little over 2 months so if it ever gets back I'll tack a picture or two.
