Re-rack question - 8-ball

I knew a lot about his character before the game. I am not surprised.

That's why I was hoping someone like Bob would Chime in, or someone else who has been in the same situation. As I said, I'd be a lot more butt hurt if there was cash or something on the line.
You need to have a set of rules that you are playing by. I suppose since there is no referee to declare a stalemate, you have to continue with pointless shots until he gets bored.

Here's the CSI take on a stalemate:

If a referee judges that the table is in a position such that any attempt to pocket or move a ball will result in loss of game on that shot, or that the game is not progressing because the position of the table has not significantly changed through three consecutive innings by each player, the referee will declare a stalemate and the game will be replayed with the player who broke the game breaking again. (AR p. 104)
Here is the World Standardized Rule, which is about the same:

If the referee observes that no progress is being made towards a conclusion, he will announce his decision, and each player will have three more turns at the table. Then, if the referee determines that there is still no progress, he will declare a stalemate. If both players agree, they may accept the stalemate without taking their three additional turns. The procedure for a stalemate is specified under the rules for each game.

If he goes by the rules of Chinese 8-ball (now called heyball), intentionally playing on one of your opponent's balls is loss of rack. So, you should get clarity about which rule set is in use.

Personally, I would avoid him.

What is getting kicked? nothing. If I didn't have pizza and an alluring GF, maybe I would have been stubborn enough to spend 30 minutes of my life in the perpetual foul to BIH loop lol
I spoke with sarcasm of your legendary kicking skills. It's actually quite simple.
Kick to the opposite end rail with right english. Whitey comes back, hits the side rail one sight from the corner, breaks the cluster and kisses the end rail.

No player worth a shit is going to agree to a stalemate in that situation.
I've asked quite a few more than competent players, and I'm not sure I agree... But we started late, and finished close to midnight, I wake up 5am to get to work. I am not wasting half an hour of my life pushing the white ball into space. If I was a stubborn c*nt I'd have won that rack, but the whole game was sour tbh, like I mentioned.
In hindsight, should have fouled and left the 6 on, then let him try to break them out, which would have sunk the black no doubt.

Not enough space. Bad diagram. there isn't space to hit the black without scratching the white into the pocket.

Thanks Bob! Don't have to play him again, and I haven't chosen to play him for around 6months prior outside of this small league. I do value his initiative to set-up the league from a suggestion I made long ago. It's otherwise been quite fun.

One of the many things that annoyed me, is that he organized the league, and posted the rules in the group. Then told me I would be cheating to seek clarification from him in-game (because he had no clue himself, and wanted the win). After multiple shots in the same cycle, it was absolutely going nowhere. I've never had such a 'stalemate' in my time playing pool. Only in snooker.

Has there ever been a televised pro match with such a stalemate?

Once you shot the 6 in and gave him ball in hand you should have been all but dead. All anyone has to do is thin the 4, unfreezing it from the rail & the 8 while not leaving you a direct shot at the 8. Now you are kicking at a frozen 8 ball. Only thing that stops you from losing the game from there is pure luck.

It was too close to the pocket, I would have options If he inched it out. If he didn't inch enough I would have continued to push into nothing for a foul. When inched out enough I would have had a couple of confident options. Hence why he kept locking me behind it. I'm sorry my drawing isn't so good, maybe I can set the balls up and take a picture of them later.

Can you clarify please…

How do you get home made titties?
🤣 it was as if my GF was psychic tbh. Came home, kicked my shoes off, looked up and well... Pizza and titties. Perfect healing. Blue cheese too.

its a stalemate if no 3 foul rule.

so the game is a do over or the end of the match and no one wins if no agreement comes about.

thats why a t.d. or ref. has to be at any event.

It's not that big an event/league to have a TD or Ref - I mean, he would be the organizer of the private league.
Just nice to clarify the 'stalemate' and what happens.

really all you could do is walk out on him and what happens, happens. no gain or loss either way.
Yeah, I could have done that and left the balls as they stood. Then It's not such a clear cut forfeiture and could be disputed more. If it meant more to me, I would do that.

I really just wanted to vent, and seek clarification of what to do in future :)

Your opponent did not have the skill to force you to shoot. He allowed you to continually push out to purposefully scratch.

All I am trying to tell you is don't think this particular outcome is going to happen everytime in the same situation. Someone is going to make you play a damn good return safety or you are going to lose the game.
