Downgrade current primary full time job to secondary part time job for primary full time in pool(Do you believe every shoe size is the same with all shoes?)I believe that a pair of dress shoes can be uncomfortable, even though they are flashy and cost a lot of money. I believe Doc Martens are comfortable, not too expensive, and with a steel toe....will hurt like hell when you are on the receiving end of a good swift kick.

I prefer wearing shoes when walking in the grass. So, I don't get any s^*t on my feet.

All I want to do is retire, I've been writing computer programs a very long time. Unfortunately, I can't afford it yet. I wouldn't mind fiddling around in a little pool related job when I do retire.

If anyone seriously knows a part of the pool industry a non -pro
could get into like maybe sales of tables or cues or even helping
with some of the larger tournaments and make a decent living let
me know. I have ran my own business for the past 11 years and
its changing to the point of being hard to etch out a good dollar
anymore.I am 37 ,single,in good health and mind(mostly) and I
can travel .I am good with people and think I could help the right
set up become a money maker .

I wouldn't quit my job, because it's actually something I love more than pool.

I would bet a lot of people in this forum, let alone the world have used an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop to fix a photo or create a funny image. I've been getting paid very well for over a decade to do just that in the graphic design world for the entertainment industry.

You wouldn't believe the tens of thousands of photos I've seen of celebrities that have never been released to the public, and the thousands I've actually manipulated fully sanctioned by the subject themselves or their representatives.

Five years ago, when I was working for a movie studio, the VP of my department gave me an article from the New Yorker magazine which had an article about people who practice the digital "dark arts" of deception used in advertising and how it destroys the self esteem of young women. I always wondered why he gave me that article, since he was paying me to perpetrate those very same false illusions.

Anyway, that's where I got my Az name from.

There are a lot of pool halls, league operators, pool organizations, pro players, product manufacturers, etc... out there that need to create websites, improve existing websites, and improve databases, etc....

I think www.unclejacksbilliards is a good example of a very good website.
I bet you could find some opportunities in the pool sector.

Well, as far as my job goes....it has been more stable than in the past. But that is not saying much. I have been lucky to maintain employment in the semicon sector for 8 years now. But I remember when 1 or 2 years was the turn over rate.

For me, my industry isn't stable. I think the sports/entertainment sector wouldn't be affected too much by economic troubles. Unless, people get so money tight that they just want to sit at home.

I know an APA league operator that runs 11 divisions....practically monopolized the area. He makes has no problems paying the bills. If he updated his website more, and spent a little more time with it....rather than out playing golf....he would be a super operator. As it is, he is already a great operator. Another person referred Frank Burgess to me. He is the franchise owner of Table Steaks in the Colorado area.

Before I started this poll/thread, I thought about some of the people I have met playing pool. And I thought if I could find someone as a business partner, then maybe we would open a pool hall. But I don't feel prepared enough for the business world. If I were to pursue this direction, I would want to learn: to build, set up, and recover pool tables; to build cues; to run a catering business; to run pool, dart, and foosball leagues; to run tournaments; to plan and coordinate major events; to run a pool school; and most importantly to run a business that has employees, and manage the financials.

I think I am going to start working on some of these facets, when/if I can work it into my work schedule. I want to be prepared before I make that big of business venture.

That's great that you have a job that you love. And that is my goal, to find a job that I love. I love to play pool, and I really want to find a career involved with pool. I really enjoy spending my time in pool halls. And I find myself thinking of ways to improve the pool halls that I play in. My primary motivation for this poll is to see if there are more people like me that share similiar interests of making pool a major role in their life.
