Recommendations wanted for a 3-piece sneaky pete for playing, jumping, and breaking

My friend is interested in using one single cue for pool, including jumps, breaks, and regular shots.

Although he may get better performance by using multiple cues, he's willing to sacrifice a little for the convenience of only carrying around a single 3-piece cue. Obviously, he will be using a hard leather tip on the cue.

Does anyone have any recommendations or input? To narrow it down, he's only interested in a Sneaky Pete design at this time, and his budget is up to about $300.

Thanks in advance,

Cuebacca

Most 3 piece jump break cues now come with hard ala phenolic tips for breaking and jumping and are not the best tips for all around playing wich are softer.

Get one of the sneaky look J&J jump/breaks and have the shaft taken down a little get a new tip badda-bing badda-boom there you go for like $120 tops.

If you are lucky enough you may find a used gilbert j/b for $300-350.

What he said. gilbert j/bs play better than some custom cues i've tried and jump and break great

Thanks guys. I've been browsing the For Sale archives and Gilberts look really nice. Is Mr. Gilbert still making cues, or is a used Gilbert pretty much the way to go?

Thanks, James. I wonder how that would play though?

I have had 2 of the Gilbert J/B cues and they both were solid all around performers. I bought them both 3-4 years ago before the prices on the got out of hand. A used one shouldn't be more than $250 and will do just fine. The Alex Brick I just sold played a little better and broke about the same as the gilbert, you should have snagged it when you could

A new Gilbert j/b is around 450.00 I believe. Without a doubt a really solid well made playing cue. I have owned several and liked them all.

I would think like a Swiss Army Knife, does many tasks, but nothing really well if you get my drift. Sure it has a SAW Blade for Cutting Twigs, not Trees.

BTW I think for $300.00 you pal could find a Cheap Player, Jump, and Break Cue to Start with. Each designed for a spicific operation.

You are right on about Andy's j/bs. They look great and play even better.Mr. Gilbert is still makingcues, and he does excellent work.

playing cue

I would contact Jim Aldrem odf Aldren custom cues in Rapid City SD he makes an awesome J/B cue with a leather tip just my .02

As much as I love a good Gilbert J/B, I have to throw Omen out there. I'm currently playing/breaking with an Omen J/B and I'm in love with it. I believe his plain j/b's sell for about the same as Gilbert's so if you get a chance at either, go for it.

I can't stress it enough though, if you're going for a cue that you can play, break and jump with, do not settle for cheap.

Don't know if that $300 is firm, but might need to spend an extra few bucks trying different tips till the right compromises are made.

well i believe if the cue had a strong taper and a hard tip it would basically serve all 3 purposed of breaking jumping and playing. corey deuel uses only 1 cue if i aint wrong. breaks plays and jumps with it.
