RED BULL as a sponsor for pool.

VENOM would be the ticket for trick shots.

I have to agree with the need to make Pool "Extreme" in order for Red Bull to be involved.

Yes, a trick shot competition or show but in a public place like at the X-Games, trade shows,or at a shopping mall.
Exposure.

My selection also.

Dr. Billiards Traveling Trick Shot Show at a mall near you.

Drawings for beginners group lessons, a cue and a soft case. Local Billiards Rooms would benefit from the exposure IF they participated and had a room that wanted and welcomed Noobs and Ball Bangers.

While pool players suck down Red Bull and other energy drinks (and other things) to keep them in action, going in a tournament, at poolhall longer, etc... The general public doesnt see pool as an extreme sport requiring the energy that Red Bull is marketed to provide.

They sponsor extreme sports and while pool players do some extreme things, it's definitely not an extreme sport.

A beer sponsor is more the way to go then an energy drink (even though it's argued that beer will hurt your game and the energy drink will help it.

The idea of a Traveling Trick Shot Show is to expose Billiards to the average Joe.

Then MAYBE some people will go to the sponsoring Billiards Room to play and ask about leagues.

Then MAYBE there might be some growth in people wanting to keep playing in a league.

Then MAYBE a Sponsor might take notice and promote Billiards.

Exposure is what I am after. Billiards doesn't exist for the majority of the public.

Yes, this is not a "Money Maker". Yes, it's going to cost money to do. But it's an idea.

I hate to be negative AGAIN, but no mainstream company of any size will talk to a game that has no ORG. Johnnyt

Agreed.

An organized, respected league organization is key.

Time for someone else to take over at the wheel.

Marketing types don't have a penchant for wise-cracking humor, especially when their job is on the line.

I know this is a really old thread but I just lol'd becase this is funny. I'm a director in the marketing dept for a fortune 500 company. My boss (head of marketing) and I spend most of our day making jokes.

Again, the problem with pool is the people in pool. They're clueless.

I don't get the joke.

Any comment on the ideas for marketing and promotions?

RE: Red Bull Promotion/Sponsorship

The Red Bull Channel is an action sports channel.
A crazy idea like the plan for the "Pool, Poker, & Pain" might work on such a network.

The harsh reality is that outside of "Pool Players" Pro pool is not a very enticing to neutral viewers. A pro masterfully running a six pack looks too easy & boring to an uneducated observer.

Pool would have to be coupled with either celebrity or an action sport to get the attention of the Red Bull channel.

Red Bull does not sponsor badminton, curling, chess, bowling, etc. Basically, the sports that have little to no TV exposure. Get on TV, and you will get sponsors. But, you need sponsors to get on TV? Yes, quite the conundrum.

In JoeyA's original post, he stated not to make jokes because marketing people don't like jokes.

I am a marketing person and all I do is joke. 90% of commercials on tv use humor to sell products.

I'm trying to say JoeyA doesn't have a clue what he's talking about... which was obvious by his amazing plan to capture the heart of a company who only sponsors extreme athletes and sports to sponsor the slowest moving game known to man. Make sense?

Why would Redbull, a energy drink company be interested in pool?

I have not read the full thread here. They sell Monster drinks in my pool room. I do not do the energy drinks but plenty of players do. Redbull is an energy drink. Some players believe it gives them stamina and focus. Why wouldn't Redbull, also an energy drink, be interested in increase in their market share. I do realize that it is a rather small market. To my way of thinking only Cheqio targets the pool playing market.
