Refelting tables

I'm re-wooling my table.... got it.
You're recovering with worsted wool cloth. We used to go in this old-school spot and the owner when it was time to recover would always moan, "damn its time for new rugs". Still laugh thinkin' of that old cat.

I still call it felt. That's what the Pool Hall owner who taught me how to re-felt tables in 1975 called it, so that's good enough for me. :)

And, apparently for manufacturers of it:

I think I'll go with what the leading manufacturer calls it vs. some yahoo in a pool hall. What does Simonis know anyway? They've only been manufacturing it since 1680.

You are absolutely wrong. I've been playing since 1960's, and it's always been called FELT. You can't rewrite history.

Only problem is actual felt has never been used to cover pool/billiard tables. I don't care how many online know-nothing sources you keep quoting. Just because the wrong term has been used over time doesn't make it correct. Simonis has been making CLOTH since the 18th century. Kind pre-dates the 1960's just a tad.

Exactly. Another gaffe is using 'bumpers' in place of 'cushions'.

I hate that too. Technically its semi- correct because concrete uses cement. My neighbor used to drive a truck when i was a kid and if i called it cement he'd always correct me.
Yes it does contain cement as one of the ingredients. Kind of like cake contains flour.

Felt, cloth, cover
Pool stick, cue stick
Stripes/solids, high balls/low balls, big balls/little ones
Head string, kitchen
Cushion, bumper

There are dozens of other references that I have long forgotten. Please don't start a thread on the different local bar rules.
Pool cue for the win.

No end to confusion. Wool cloth is typically ’felted’ (washed/preshrunk), but ‘felt’ is technically… pressed, not woven.
High quality/tightly woven (Simonis) ‘worsted’ wool pool cloth was often differentiated from lower quality ‘carded’ weaves, but ‘carding’ is the process wool fibers are initially separated with.

That’s an easy explanation. Pool players have bigger sticks. More balls. Do it on cue…. And get FELT on the table.

Damn! I didnt know I would start a shit show! I was just being the normal asshole I usually am!

But since its started anyway, no manufacturers of billiard cloth refers to it as "felt". That would be something a clueless salesman would call it.
