I have 8 Aramith cb's and 3 measal balls that pick up chalk bad. The other day I picked up one of my regular no name cb's and have found it doesn't get chalk stuck to it. Aramith must use a different method of finishing the balls. Johnnyt
 
I think if you just play with any of the cue balls, wiping it off afterwards, the chalk won't stick to it as much over time. New cue balls seem to have a finish on them that chalk sticks to. Once you wear it in, and get rid of the finish, you won't have that problem. It does take some time, though.
 
My measles ball has blue spots all over it. Even using Aramith cleaner and restorer won't get them off. My other cue balls clean up fine.

I have more of a problem with chalk than with the cue ball. It seems that if I use Masters Green chalk my cue ball stays clean. However, if I use Masters blue chalk, there's blue chalk marks all over the cue ball. Strange?
 
I have all kinds of CBs ( I like trying new stuff) and all of them get chalk marks. There is not a cue ball in my basement that doesn't have blue marks all over them. Now the measle ball has bigger, darker splotches, but they all have them.

I believe this cb that doesn't get ang chalk stuck to it was under $10. Johnnyt
 
Magic Eraser

I use Aramith Ball Cleaner with a small piece of magic eraser to remove the chalk marks. After drying, I wipe with a microfiber cloth. Aramith also makes a more aggressive cleaner, called Ball Restorer.
 
Chalk stuck to cue balls

Johnny, I agree...except Aramith's most expensive cue ball...the cue ball that comes with their best "Tournament" set made of the "duramith" phenolic resin.
I bought a 1/2 dozen of those cue balls for sale for that exact reason! F.Y.I.

I have the red dot, red circle, blue circle, red swirl and measles ball. Red circle seems to keep the cleanest, a little less build up than the others. I dont like using other cue balls because they wont play the same as the balls at a tournament. I'd be mostly concerned about the weight of the cheaper balls(might be lighter, easier to draw).
 
I haven't figured out why the measles ball gets so dirty compared to my other cue balls.The red circle stays fairly clean and all the blue spots come off when I clean it. Not with the measles ball.

Since they are approximately the same weight, I figured the measles ball would be easier to spin and draw than the red circle because of the grip/friction shown by how the chalk sticks to it. No way! I can draw the red circle a foot with a stroke I use to just stop the measles ball. Very counter-intuitive.

the new aramith tournament balls sets use a new formulation they call duramith and it does help the balls stay cleaner for longer....though there is no ball in the world that will stay clean forever
