The Marietta Poolroom just recieved some sad news that on Wednesday March 15 Lamar had past away. We don't have full details to what happened but we will do our homework for those that would like to reach his family. Lamar was a pillar of the pool community, a great friend to all that new him and will be greatly missed. The poolroom in marietta will have some cards to sign that will be passed on to his son, so to anyone who would wish to sign a card or drop off anything for his family see the managers at the poolroom.

That truly is sad news and my heart goes out to Lamar's family and friends. He was one of the first people I met when I moved out here to Georgia and a pleasure to know. His generous support of pool and players will always be remembered.

It is the Lamar that logs on here. I have known him for a couple of years now. He was a great man with such a passion for pool that it became infectious whenever I was around him. He was gentle and funny and always had a story to tell. We will miss him more than he could ever imagine.

I have to say I am in a state of shock...very very sad, such a sweet man.
He was definalty on line this past weekend as we both were sweating Steve Moore's progress in the IPT Q'er.

Very rarely has anyone done as much for the game as Lamar. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. Thanks for the info Andrew. I hope everyone else at both pool rooms is doing ok. Hope to see everyone soon- Matt

I never interacted with him on this forum but I read his posts written with passion.Sure he will be missed. My condolences to his family.

There is only a couple of days for this but the poolroom in marietta is taking donations for flowers for the family of Lamar. Anyone who wishes to contribute see any member of management at the poolroom any we will make sure that it will be taking care of.

Lamar

Lamar was a True Gentleman, a real Class Act...he loved Our game of Pool, was always on The Rail, always available and supportive to anyone or anything to do with Pool. I met Lamar at The Side Pocket on Canton Road in Marietta when I moved to this area and started looking for a Team...we both played out of this room...and on ocassion met across the table...he was kind, thoughtful and shot a pretty sporty game too...

He will be greatly missed by myself and The Side Pocket Family, and the entire ATL Pool Community.

I offer the Most Heartfelt Condolences to all of his Family-

Sean Jones & Family

Lamar was a true friend of our sport. His passion and love for the game and its action were a true inspiration to me and others.

I always looked forward to events at the Pool Rooms in GA because Lamar was always in attendance. The Tournaments and Auctions thrived because of his participation. Lamar was the best pool player handicapper I have ever met.

Lamar, thank you for your unrivalled support of events in the Atlanta area. We will always remember you.

Lamar sent me a PM one day, it read:

RE: $2,000 added, Duluth, 02/04-05/06.

01-13-2006, 11:47 PM

Hey Mike,
I would like to add another $500 to this event, that would make it $2500 added.

I couldn't believe my eyes so I wrote and called Lamar to asked him why?

Lamar wrote back:

Reason:
My oldest, Mike, raced go-kart #2.
My 2nd son, Greg, raced go-kart #5.
In 1983 & 1984, Our Karts #2 & #5 were also shown in the "World of Wheels", car shows in Atlanta; a "AAAA" event, in the show world.
I wish to cut this story short, and just say "I would like to see #2 & #5 in the payout at this event".

He also called me back and left a voicemail and then sent this to me:

Hey Mike,
I just left my reply in your voice mail, and I am confirming in writing.
"Yes, I would like add $500 to this event!!! YOU HAVE MY WORD".

"You have another $500 for said event",
Lamar

And that's the story of how the "LAMAR OPEN" came to the Pool Room in February of this year.
Please read the article at: http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.cfm?storynum=3348

In all my years in pool and with all my travels around the US I have never met anyone as nice or as generous as Lamar. Lamar would go out of his way to make someone feel comfortable or to help them in any way that he could. He always had great stories to share and was very proud of his family.

I will always remember Lamar for his love and compassion.

I offer my deepest condolences to his family.

Respectfully,

Mike Janis
