Reno Action

Jam do you have first hand information as to why Luat's name is included in Group 18 for the Reno Open? Was he added in the last minute?

I am in the dark as to the why, but one thing for sure, that is one tough grouping, Quiten Hann, Jose Parica, Jeremy Jones, and now Luat, with two Filipinos too!

Ewa Laurence will have her hands full with this crew. She is my birthday soul mate, both being born on February 26th, and as such, I am pulling for her all the way! :)

Does anybody know how long passports are good for? Just curious!

Jennie ... It used to be for 10 years. They used to cost about $75, but
I think it is more like $150 now.

They had fourty groups of five in the first round in Vegas. It sounds like the same as Reno.

I may be mistaken, but I had thought the FIRST round in Vegas was SIX players, with the SECOND round being FIVE players.

Keith McCready, who was present at the players meeting yesterday in Reno, stated that this switch of five and six players between rounds one and two was explained.

I wasn't there in Reno and am only relaying a little hearsay. :p

COOL! Thanks. We spent about 170-plus for one passport. Though I brought my own photos, they require the photos to have a WHITE background. The post office in my area takes pictures right there on the spot for 15 bucks. What a great deal, and how convenient!

Ronnie non-participation in Reno

Ronnie had to pull out due to return of ear infection and prohibition to fly

I am sorry to hear about his ear infection, and I know that flying in an airplane could definitely make his ear infection hurt worse too.

Is there a prohibition for Englanders to fly to the States?

This is strange as on the BBC Sport website under the snooker section it says Ronnie pulled out of the Pot Black Cup held in london yesterday as he was playing in the IPT World Open.

As for him pulling out of the event due to an ear infection cant be true unless he has had a re-occurence of his ear infection in which he was unable to attend the Norwegian 9ball challenge back in July where his doctor said he was not allowed to fly and therefore he didn't attend the event which was a huge disappointment to all the players and fans in Norway.

Ronnie wouldn't miss out on the chance of possibly picking up a winner's cheque for $500,000 unless something else came up hopefully nothing too serious!!!

He must have been mistaken because they have two hundred players in each tournament and two hundred is not divisible by six so the first round has to be groups of five.

The members only tournaments have 150 players so it would be possible to have six player groups on the first day there.

It would be interesting to see a transcript of the meeting on their website (hint, hint IPT) to reduce the rumours that get started from the second and third hand information.

I'm here at the event. Playing my first round on the second day.

Just got about 80 mins practice in. Tables are still sliding still so pockets are still pretty generous considering.

Action will start in 30 mins. I'll provide the occassional bit of info.

I thought they were going to reuse the cloth from the NAO so it was slower.

Too bad what happened with Ronnie, I was particularly keen to see how he would do his second go around. Also, he is a popular players and would be good for the TV ratings especially on Eurosport.

Just heard from Keith via cell phone! Man, you gotta love the age of technology! :)

Keith got some practice in before the 10:00 a.m. matches, even though he doesn't play until tomorrow. He's getting ready to go sweat the match between Marlon Manalo and Scotty Townsend, pulling for his friend Scotty.

He said that Cliff Joyner's name was announced at the beginning of the first match. Apparently, Cliff wasn't at his designated table yet. It is so important that the players are right there at the table when the rounds commence. According to the players meeting report, if one doesn't make it, they can be disqualified or forfeited.

The Men in Black are in full force. These are the guys who are usually seen dressed in black suits, and they are part of Kevin Trudeau's team. I can't say enough good things about them.

There is one member of the Men in Black named Bret who is usually standing near the Starship Arena. Bret goes all out to make himself available to all, asking if everything is all right, if there is anything he can do. He assists the players at the table, and he helps all spectators find the best seat possible for the match they desire to watch. These gentleman known as the Men in Black are behind the scenes, and they really make a big difference in helping the event run smoothly.

That's about it for now! Keith promised to give me an update later today. I'll post 'em up when I get 'em! :p

I don't know all the nitty gritty, but Steve Moore won his first match against Jim Raney, 8 to 1.

Luat defeated one of my faves, Ewa Laurence, 8 to 2.

The South Dakota Kid Shane Van Boeing comes out on top against England's Imrad Majid, 8 to 1.

The ticker at the top of the tournament coverage window at www.internationalpooltour.com is great.

Now I don't have to keep switching from round-robin scoresheet to scoresheet to find out which matches have been posted. It is updating automatically with the latest scores that are reported.

Mike Davis wins his first match against John Wins 8 to 2. I was worried about the kid, after hearing it through the grapevine that he strained his shooting hand working on his 8-ball break. Glad to hear he's okay and hitting 'em great.

Jon Kucharo defeated Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant, 8 to 2, first round.

I can't say enough GOOD things about the IPT website. It seems to keep getting better and better after each event. The ticker at the top is FANTASTIC and up to date. Talk about immediate gratification! :D

Whoever is the IPT webmaster deserves the highest honors. Never have I experienced live coverage like this for pool. It's the absolute nuts! :p

Speaking of nuts, whatever happened to the NUTS thingie?

Danny Harriman wins his first match of the IPT event 8-zip. The man is on a mission and is taking no prisoners! :p
