Where do you go to see how many total points you have? Does every time someone clicks on rep give you 1 rep point? Also, is it possible to see who has been giving your rep? Thanks in advance.

Click on "usercp" and the last 5 reps given to you will be shown. Also the number at the top is the amount of rep points you have. The more rep points a person has the more rep points you get. My rep is worth just over 300 and I have 29,000 rep points to give you an idea.

The rep is not effective as it was when it was first initiated.

When the system was first put in place on this forum, several years ago, it was effective. However, as time goes on, the point system for the reps themselves is what is making it ineffective.

As an example, my rep should not be worth 400 points and another person's rep is only worth 10 points. A newbie who just comes to this forum and joins can get 11 green boxes in one day. However, when the rep system was first put in place on this forum, iit took most folks almost a year to get 11 green boxes.

I think a satisfactory resolution or remedy, if you will, would be to limit the points for rep, from 10 to 50. Those with higher points and longer membership would have reps worth 50 points when they give it out, and newbies and new members' rep could be worth 10 to 40 points.

IMHO, that would be the way to "fix" the rep system as it currently exists and make it fair and equitable to all.

You are extremely right JAM. The smaller gap between the giveable rep points is a great idea as it truly makes no sense to have somewhat 100 posts and 11 boxes. I mean of course, (s)he could have posted 100 good replies but a smaller / slower pace of getting green boxes could gain extra respect for those with 1,000+ (good) posts.

I mean I don't feel like someone like me with 500 posts should have almost all the green boxes as it is totally impossible to add just as much value to this forum with 500 posts like with one or two or more thousands of posts. And the amount of boxes should represent that.
