Just curious how the IPT chose the possible commentators for the IPT challenge match between Sigel and Schmidt. Anyone know?

Tony did a great job during the World Straight Pool Championships and when he teamed up with Allison Fisher for the Final IPT World 8-ball championship.

Anyone have any information?

I'm not sure who compiled the list that they have up on their website. IMO, Tony should have been on it. He's a great straight pool player, excellent commentator, and he is extremely popular with players and fans. He would have been my FIRST choice.

There was a lady from the IPT that contacted me and asked me if I wanted to be on the list of possibilities with Grady, Loree Jon , and Max.She only mentioned that I was reccomended along with the other three, and didn't explain who had chosen us. I had to decline reason being that it didn't fit in with my schedule. I also think Tony would of been an excellent choice along with Grady.

I Vote For you BlackJack :)

I'm flattered, but whomever they choose to put in the booth with Grady will do a great job. I hope its Tony Robles, Nick Varner, or Danny Diliberto. You can't go wrong with any of those guys. They are all superb!

It's going to be Kevin.

Tony would be great, but would they pay him to fly out and do it?

I'm curious how Max's name got on that list. He doesn't have any commentating experience that I know of, and 14.1 most definitely not his best game (although he did do incredibly well at the 2006 14.1 WC). I guess his sheer firepower and perspective on the game would lend an interesting analytical approach to commentating though. I wonder if it's because he's one of the few well-spoken pros ou in the LA area (where I'm assuming this is being taped)?

It doesn't matter whom you put in with KT. He's just going to ask ass a nine questions in the middle of a good story anyhow. "this is a hard shot coming up...right (take your pick) not like my diet book where you only have to get reamed 12 times a year.". Johnnyt

LoL, I can see it now: "Check out my upcoming book, the 99 Critical Shots in Pool They Don't Want You to Know About!"

It's his money and his show. Too bad you couldn't be there Billy.

Why would you wish that on me? Doing commentary with Kevin
was one of the reasons I opted out.

Gail, I am in total agreement with you. Allison Fisher and Tony made a 'dynamic duo'. Tony would be a good fit with any commentator. Oh! and that Jay helfert just looks and sounds like a clueless redneck. To many of those scum type in pool sadly to say!

Grady and Billy in the booth again.....that would be like a dream come true.

Thanks JLC! I totally agree. I know I may have some bias, but when I listened to his commentary at the 14.1 championships, I learned A TON! So basically the IPT just randomly chose people? That seems kind of silly. Shouldn't they offer up the option from the public asking who's commentary they have liked from the past?
