replacing handle

I'm wondering how difficult it would be to have the handle of a cue replaced. The present handle has a wrap and I'd like it to be wrapless. Thanks in advance for your responses.

You may want to consider a leather wrap first...or even maybe let Ryan of Rat cues clear over the linen. Both choices will be much easier on your pocketbook.;)

Thanks for the input, Kevin. The cue's original wrap was leather and I had it replaced with linen. I like the feel and look of a wrapless cue. Ball park, how much would it cost to have the handle replaced? Thanks again.

I would suggest Jim Buss for this job. He is one of the best at replacing the handle's in cue's. I know that this is a job I don't care to tackle! You can find his contact info at the ACA website.

I honestly couldn't give you a price as I'm too busy to accept repairs currently. PM Ryan aka Rat cues...he does great work with fast turnaround and his price will be more than competitive. I highly recommend him for that type work. Some may charge more than your cue is worth, depending of course on what it is. You can purchase brand new, quality handmade wrapless cues in the $400-500-600 range and have many choices. Something to keep in mind.

Stacked leather will give you the feel of a wrapless, without the handle replacement that you're talking about. They can also give your cue a nice unique look. Click here for an example.

Have you considered having finish put over the wrap to get the feel you desire? Or is it a matter of the look as well? i.e. Would the look of a wrap finished over not be as appealing as a wood handle section. The hit may be different if you have it replaced. The balance may also be affected.

I did that once. Cue hit better imo, but developed a buzz soon after.

who does the work is important from my encounter. seriously place quality above price, as long as you can afford it. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for all the responses, fellas. The cue in question is a Jensen that I've had for about 8 years. I've e-mailed Mike Johnson about this but received no response. He's probably very busy with other work. Again, thanks for all the input.
