Reports from Philippines

I went and picked-up Mika and Rodney last night at 2300h when they flew in from Tokyo via Seoul and headed directly to Superman Sports Bar where we met-up with Perry. After a couple of beers and some catching up the 4 of us headed for A Taste of LA ,at 3am, for an early morning meal. Birthday boy Rodney just loved their roast pork and doubled up plus a couple more SanMig Lights. Health-concious Mika had a salad and a glass of red. Before we called it a night the restaurant staff brought Rodney a slice of cake and we all sang him a happy Birthday song. This is going to be a weeklong celebration Rodney!! Happy Birthday!!

I missed LECHON!!! :( :( :( :(

my local cell number is 09151119526. I return to Manila on Nov 28 in the evening, dunno if we will go to OneSide or Players' Den late at night but who knows... My friends who I referred to as playing poker got interested in a million piso tournament and gonna play a qualifier on nov 29 at Players' Den. So maybe I will be around during the quali and main tournament if they manage to get there.

checked Fusion poolhall yesterday, they have a new owner compared to last year. But the rest is the same, so it's far from being closed.
Also noticed Jharome Pena practicing in Players' Den, he said that all the big guns like Efren, Django, Alcano got stuck on the way from Japan playing some other tournament. Later Pena was playing poker in a qualification tournament for a chance to win a million peso in two days' time.
In One Side there is only Lolong playing, and we called Bert Pasay to play our guy, so he arrived and got some of our money :)
Met a couple of Norwegians who are on vacation and just arrived yesterday. I don't remember the names but they know Christian (pooladdict) very well and shoot very good pool themselves though referred to them as non-pros.
The tournament starts in two days, there are newspaper articles about QC Invasion, yesterday there was a press-conference.
If some of you are aound in Trinoma Mall during the tournament feel free to text me and we could meet for a chat. My cell number is in this thread a little bit above.

SOMEBODY NEEDS to start Manilla Pool Vacations. Make it an all inclusive with some light action set up. That way someone can go there - has all the accomodations worked out - gets in action, has some kind of a chance to win but also explores the fun side.

Pool Fantasy Camp in the Phillipines!!! How strong would that be?

Would it be worth it for someone to spend $5000 for a week or two of being Efren Reyes' student in the Phillipines? How each day a different instructor and action at night? The visitor starts with the third tiers and if good enough works their way up.

That can be arranged. I was also told that it'd be cheaper if the airline ticket was purchased here and so with accomodations. Must be about being a local making such arrangements.

You've met Henrik and Alex. They will stay there for two weeks, on a pool-vacation.

It became popular to go to Philippines after Christian and me was there almost 2 years ago. Henrik and Alex are now on their second visit, and not their last.

Last time Henrik was there he played a lot with Gomez, and lost barely to Bustamante getting the 7, so he was quite happy with his performance. Alex played mostly with Jharome Pena and Jeffrey De Luna, but also tried to give Efren a hard time in 8-ball :)

Several other Norwegian's are talking about a trip to Manila next year, on a pool-vacation. Every Norwegian who has gone to Philippines, even only for two weeks, have improved their game.

oh, we finally arrived. Spent a day on Boracay already, four more to go. Then we move back to Manila in order to watch Team Philippines vs Team World - though I've just noticed the thread that WPA is going to ban the players who's going to participate.
SO now they're banning:
1. Mika Immonen-WPC Champion, Team Europe Mosconi Cup
2. Rodney Morris-World Cup Team USA Champion, Team USA Mosconi Cup
3. Thorsten Hohmann- WPC Champion, Team Europe Mosconi Cup
4. Charlie Williams - BCA Open Champion, Team USA Mosconi Cup
5. Raj Hundal- World Pool Masters Champion
6. Fu Jianbo- World Cup Champion Team China
7. Wu, Chia Ching- WPC Champion and WPA World 8 Ball Champion
8. Yang, Chin Sun- Guinness Grand Champion

I doubt it. Had we not had an 8-man limit for each team then we would have had more multi-titled players here.

AMEN...

What a list that is. You've not yet included the Q.C., Philippines side. This event will be S.O.R. yet again. I would have been there if not because of work.

Congrats...

A major blunder by the WPA if they attempt to ban these guys and the filipinos who play in this event. Especially after the problems and delays with the WTBC pay outs. Their credibility just took a blow, and this will undermine whatever good will they have left.

their bluff to ban filipino players (which i believe was the actual intent) from wpa events if they play with the BMPAP to have them tow the BSCP line has and will definitely backfire. now we'll see if they will carry out their threat and lose major goodwill or risk being seen as lameducks and lose credibility.....either way, they lose. I hope WPA realizes if it was worth it coming to the rescue of the BSCP.....

Johnny and SVB in place of Charlie and Raj would've made this team almost unbeatable. Still, that is quite an impressive line-up. The QC Philippine team would be just as formidable though. No other country could come up with local team that could be match for a collection of the world's best. Amazing.

What is going to be the format? I hope it's not just 9ball ala Mosconi cup. In my opinion playing different games would make for a more exciting event. It will most likely favor the QC,RP team. Efren, Django and Alex have always done well with master of the table rankings at the DCC. Plus the Filipinos more or less know each other's rythm which would play out in doubles or scotch doubles games. Nevermind if they include 14.1 though. Hohmann would almost be guaranteed to have that in the bag. I won't be able to watch it but am just as excited just reading about it. Keep us posted.

lol, have you ever been there? no need for anything to be "set up", you can get action from almost anyone cheap, anytime, and a large spot to boot

Raj and Charlie are just as capable. The players in the list too kept communication lnes with us open all throughout the turmoiland expressed support to what we believe in and working for. More players actually started communicating with us and expressing their desire to participate but our apologies to them for not having the capacity to accomadate at the moment. We started small but with quality content so there's no reason for all these to not grow. We're looking forward to seeing and enjoying our future events with all the players and fans.

In a way that is true but... there are other factors that a first time visitor needs that can really make his/her visit enjoyable, bad-incident free and affordable. Their:
1. security is paramount
2. finding the most affordable clean accomodations in close proximity to the place they want to visit most often
3. Safe places for meals
4. Recommended nightspots
5. Directions to places of interest
6. Introduction to people in the poolhalls (who better to introduce them than somebody who's not to mess with-BMPAP members)

Axtually yes I have and no you can't get action from anyone at any time with a large spot to boot. If they don't know you then there won't be any large spot. At least this was my experience in several pool rooms when I was there. And as far as that goes there are the people there whose job it is to stir up action who will "bet with you" to encourage you to play when in fact they aren't really betting at all. You know as well as I do that this goes on so it's not as if everyone is just happy friendly and trying to make a fair match up.

And in fact if you don't know your way around Manila there are many ways to get cheated or end up in a bad spot. Very often people who volunteer to "help you" are working both sides of the fence and they take you to the spots where they get a commission. Nothing wrong with that per se but what I was talking about was more in line of a one way type deal where you come and have a chaperone who is already paid and not hitting you up for more.

And more than that if I were just to show up then I very much doubt that I could get time with Efren but if it were prearranged then I am sure it would be no problem.

My bad, Verna is looking younger all the time! Wonder what Perry feeds her? :)
