Residents Angered Over New Billiard Hall

I moved from Cleveland to Lawrenceville back in 96 and moved back home in 02. There were many pool halls in the north east sector of Atlanta. Sounds like there were alot more built since then. My buddy opened Lucky Breaks up off Peachtree Industrial and couldn't muster enough business after making the move from Venture Mall. When I left, the pool business was in a slump in that area unless you had a mixed business of sportsbar/pool room. Sounds like with the amount of new residents, perhaps the business was reincarnated. Loved the area though except for traffic.

I came back to Cleveland and all but a couple pool halls closed. The area is dead for pool.

How was the clinic ?

I hear thet Tom Simpson is an excellent teacher.

A thread I just started on the subject:
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=55512

Tom's great. I'd recommend his clinic to pretty much anyone. It's pricy but worth it, I think. I just won $115 yesterday in a 8-ball tournament, pretty much thanks to the stuff Tom taught me. The upswing in my pool game is going to pay for itself in no time, methinks. :D

And for you Atlanta folks - he's doing another one in Atlanta (probably at the Pool Room in Duluth again) in September sometime.

Mike, please don't take this the wrong way, but damn! 12-4 and the breaks? I assume you just never got a shot at your hole right? I'm not a 1p player at all, but I think I'd play Cliff with that spot. Can you elaborate a bit on what happened? Thanks.

Dont take this the wrong way. But if you are not a one pocket player, A snowball flying through the lower regions of hell has a better chance of surviving than you do at 12-4 and the breaks against Cliff.

Actually ...

it is not surprising about the billiard room, and most have 'gray areas' except the ones, perhaps, located in a nice mall or strip mall somewhere.

This is where the room comes in, and what type of patron it wishes to cater to. If you have lots of young and dumbs around, then trouble will soon follow.

From what I read on this thread previously, you are most certainly right. Hard to believe though. No wonder people love 1p, you can give up a spot that seems like the nuts, but it's just a trap. Reminds me of the time I saw Cory Deuel give up the breaks and ball in hand after the break, and still won.

Hally said other similar billiards clubs in the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District — she counted 15 within three miles — are hotbeds for crime, including burglaries and public drunkenness.

15 pool halls within three miles??? I doubt it.

The billiard related demographics here are phenominal. This is just one of the reasons I call the Atlana area home and the future site of the Southern Classic Open Billiards Expo. scoexpo@yahoo.com

Ohio. If we ever met, we would probably have some great stories as if I am correct, you used to run your business out of Cleveland and I have seen you at many of the local pool halls. I know I have seen you as far back as the early/mid 90's in the Cleveland area.

Based on when I lived there, I wouldn't agree to 15 in 3 miles, but if you made Beaver Ruin and Rt 85 the center and went say 5-8 miles in any direction, 15 pool oriented places/halls would be possible. It is a mecca.

Right now from 85 to Lawrenceville Hwy on just Jimmy Carter there are 6 pool rooms. And those are only the ones I can see while I am driving down Jimmy Carter.

I do recall there being alot of halls up and down Jimmy Carter. There are a few over on Buford Highway lined up like that around Doraville. Never liked getting out of the car over there though. :(

I never get over to Buford Hwy but since I'm a skinny little boy from the meantreets of Cleveland (Lkwd), Ohio. I really don't mind getting out of the car anywhere as long as they want to just SHOOT pool. LOL

Anyway, that new room they are having trouble getting open is just off JC. I hope it's something worth patronizing. Most around here aren't.
